the forum has a critical mission this year to distinguish itself from the student senate and to bring faculty and students together university president peter likins said at wednes day's forum meeting this is the year to work hard to strengthen student-faculty interactions he added presenting the president's report likins stressed forum's new role in relation to the student senate created last spring explaining that forum needs a clear sense of its purpose likins said now is the time to make things happen since there is a good mood and receptiveness toward improving student faculty relations according to likins the senate will handle governance problems of student interest freeing forum of many details presiding over the meeting forum co-chairman jorge segovia 89 introduced the forum's new administrative secretary virginia deßias of the university development office who wi 11 replace bea brown who resigned last spring he said changes in forum's constitution will be made thursday when the floor was opened peter moore 89 proposed a campus-wide recycling program which would include the use of newspapers computer paper and plastics he said the plan would provide a model associate dean of stu dents mark erickson to discuss alter native security agencies to handle lehigh parties followi ng the withdraw al of bda security and investigations from its contract with lehigh at the brief meeting which was held at alpha tau omega fraternity erick son told the group not to worry about a shortage of guards for this weekend we will find a way to meet your needs he said erickson explained the termination of bda security's business at lehigh came after the weekend of oct 7 when sigma phi epsilon fraternity reported a guard at their party was allegedly asking for bribes in return for allow ing underage people to enter the bar area erickson and sigma phi epsilon president tony caciolo declined any further comments on the incident because they said it is just a complaint and has not been proven after being bda decided to end its business with lehigh he said working on a college campus puts his company in a danger ous position the incident and the false allegations only heightened our concern he said the risks are extreme he said far more extreme than any of us could have ever imagined eltringham said his company has cancelled all of its effort to find a company to cover lehigh's needs at monday's meeting erickson had the name of one agency baer security which had indicated an interest in lehigh but was not certain how many guards it would be able to supply according to assistant dean of stu dents mike boyd baer security was up front with lehigh and said it would not be able to handle all of the university's business baer currently provides security services for lafayet te college in easton nevertheless erickson said go ahead and register your parties just like you usually do if we can't get enough guards for the weekend we will sit down and work on something else erickson told fraternity members he would be talking with another agency and he would try to arrange additional guards from them for the upcoming weekend hobbie personnel a temporary employment contractor is another agency which will provide guards for this weekend hobbie personnel gen erally supplies clerical people light industrial and production workers and technical personnel such as engineers and draftsmen erickson however will not know whether there are enough guards until hobbie personnel decides how many guards they will be able to provide they're in the process of interview ing people right now as we speak erickson said if there are a greater number of parties than available guards a last resort would be off duty bethlehem policemen he said informed of the alleged bribery bda chose to end their association with the university erickson said sidney eltringham the president of bda security said the allegation is an absolute unadulterated lie eltringham said the situation has been investigated and has been found to be completely untrue eltringham explained the alleged problem at sig ma phi epsilon was not the reason contracts with colleges in the past two weeks eltringham said there are too many ways to go around the system he stressed there are no bad feelings between bda and lehigh it was merely an economic and policy deci sion he explained since losing the services of bda erickson said he has been scram bling through the yellow pages in an the inck/ent and the false allegations only heightened our concern
