the brown and white lehigh university's student newspaper founded in 1894 vol 106 no 30 all the lehigh news first tuesday february 16 1999 jazz group plays classic rock in zac by keith roberts news writer the lehigh valley jazz repertory orchestra rocked baker hall in the zoellner arts center with their tribute to led zeppelin and jimi hendrix wednesday night the music department sponsored the two-hour program which exhibited some of the two's most notable works and attracted nearly 270 people the jazz ensemble added the sound of a 16-piece orches tra to the familiar sounds of the featured artist's music russell anixter a copyist from new york city arranged the show his credits include being involved in the music preparation for motion pictures jingles and broadway shows including titanic footloose beauty and the beast and the current television show the civil war he noted that he is most proud of his work in preparing the music for joe lovano's sinatra tribute album bill warfield music lecturer and director of the jazz program at lehigh was in charge of the program warfield arranges and directs jazz ensemble jazz band and combos photo courtesy of nicole schock the men's swimming and diving team celebrates after winning the patriot league championship saturday the men's team defeated the u.s military academy 872 to 792 and the women's team took second place global union hopes to increase awareness by erika berg news writer the global union hopes to increase interest in its services by working with the admissions department to recruit more international students and mailing an information packet to prospective freshman students the union is eagerly awaiting the arrival of its new director bill hunter who is the programs director at the international house in new york city the union's current director michelle fisher coordinator in the administrative office of international educa tion is serving temporarily until hunter arrives in the fall the global union gives so much to lehigh and they'll be able to give even more when they have an expert like bill hunter to guide them fisher said i fore see the union heading in a great direction and providing students with even more advantages in the future the global union whose temporary headquarters is on the third floor of lamberton hall is the mother hen of many other clubs and organizations at lehigh according to its officers established in 1996 it provides a forum in which individual clubs can work together katrina schmakel 99 secretary of the global union articulated the organization's mission statement our three main purposes are to find and build future lehigh global leaders to pro vide every student on campus with an inter national experience and to be a home for international students while they are here b&w photo by stephanie remington global union lounge located in lamberton hall is open to all students faculty and staff and is equipped with a microwave coffee maker refrigerator and couches see musicians page 7 see union page 8 a the wrestling team rotc cadets had la nina storms create lost to university of harrowing training bizarre weather penn and defeated opportunities during across the country army see page 24 break see page 3 see page 11 . sports 16-24 news 1-9 science 11-13 wrestling 22 blood drive 4 science briefs 13 men's basketball 23 caspian oil 5 andrew mittendorf 24 gryphon selection 9 donald duck comics were banned from finland because he doesn't wear pants source strange but true website http://www.sbt.bhmedia.com
