prospects the admission's office organized the third annual key candidates day on saturday the high school seniors who were invited have been offered admission to lehigh this is a chance for prospective students and their families to learn more about lehigh said cathy riddell ad mission counselor who ran the program with admissions interns lynley spall 93 and russ mahland 92 the program began with a walking tourat 1 45 p.m for candidates who had not previously seen the campus at 3 p.m registration was held and each candidate was matched according to a possible major interest with a student ambassador for the day riddell explained that by assigning one ambassador to each family the fam ily gets more personalized attention and they can feel more comfortable to ask questions after being matched up the groups moved todean'smeetings and academic panels according to their fields of inter est later the candidates and their par ents split up for student life panels amanda blair 95 who spoke on the college of arts and sciences academic panel said that the parents seemed more interested in academics while the candi dates wanted to learn more about time management and other bucknell made a final second jumper to win the game 95-94 see story page 16 student attempts to extinguish car fire by marc j goldstein news editor a taylor residential college resi dent was hurt after he rushed outside to extinguish a car engine fire behind mcclintic-marshall house on sunday night the student justin ruggiero 95 was taken to st luke's hospital after suffering an asthma attack brought on by smoke inhalation he was treated and released according to the hospital two bethlehem fire engines re sponded to the fire with lehigh police saw smoke coming out of the engine he said according tothepolice report the cause of the fire remains unknown but a possible mechanical failure was cited it was re ported that the ignition was repeatedly turning over while the fire continued alurt the student medical response team responded to the fire providing initial medical care to ruggiero according to lehigh police the ve hicle a chrysler town and country sta tion wagon is owned by carol roberts the mother of edgar roberts 94 bethlehem fire captian gary briggs said the fire was almost extinguished when the trucks arrived ruggiero put it pretty well out for us briggs said damon aldrich 94 a gryphon in taylor said that ruggiero saw the fire and ran outside with a fire extinguisher from the building aldrich said that ruggiero was un able to completely extinguish the fire and thought that it was going to blow up thomas brown 93 saw the fire from the lounge in taylor i looked out of the lounge and saw the fire trucks i lu tries to attract the cream of the crop are students ruining the south side bethlehem residents complain about creation of student ghetto by jiten rana news writer lehigh off-campus students have turned the south side of bethlehem into a ghetto area residents said in a meeting thursday night with area politicians students administrators and residential representatives the residents registered several complaints against students living on montclair b i rice 1 and carlton avenues noisy parties nudity lack of parking untended gar bage unrepaired houses drunkenness unshoveled snow overcrowded houses and the use of abusive language were cited as examples of student misbehavior the meeting held at holy ghost church on carlton avenue began with a videotape showing untrimmed lawns and empty beer and pizza cartons lying on the sidewalk the residents sentiments were voiced when the video's narrator said birkel avenue looks like a used parking lot while another replied it does not those my children have been mooned verbally abused and
