from brodhead house while walk ing from the brodhead parking lot although nothing was stolen the victim suffered a broken nose and bruises from the attackers blood from the vic tim's injuries left stains on the sidewalk in front of brodhead police officials said the victim a brodhead house resi dent who had been walking alone was taken to st luke's hospital where he was treated and released smeaton said the attack was probably unrelated to the one reported yesterday campus police surveillance of mor ton and vine streets and brodhead ave by kara villamil and mitchell drake brown and white editors two lehigh students were involved in separate assault incidents last weekend according to campus police reports a female student was mugged at knifepoint in the park next to packard laboratory at approximately 9:45 p.m saturday night said john smeaton vice president of student affairs smeaton said the student was walking home alone through the dimly lit wooded area when a man approached her and said where is your pocketbook the man noticed she didn't have a pocket book and said it must be in your pocket put it on the ground and back up seeing that the assailant had a knife the victim put her wallet on the ground he grabbed it and ran the incident was see crime page 2 ures near the building nearly 150 signa tures were obtained by sunday evening laura vorel 94 explained that brod head residents are particularly unsafe because the dormitory is not part of the main campus she said there is no reliable transpor tation to and from campus buildings at night the t.r.a.c.s bus ignores the stop in front of brodhead so people are reluctant to use it she said lack of safe parking areas was an other concern of the students at night many students are forced to park in the poorly lit brodhead lot two blocks away many students voiced how unsafe walk ing to and from the lot is as exemplified by the assault this weekend i would rather risk getting a ticket than risking my life police sgt tony casciano and assistant director of residence life ozzie breiner held an information session to address the heightened fears among the brodhead residents at the meeting casciano and breiner spoke with approximately 140 residents more than 75 percent of all the students living at brodhead the pair attempted to allay fears concerning lax police prac tices inadequate lighting and transpor tation and the weekend assault incidents after hearing unconfirmed reports of weekend assault incidents brodhead residents were quick to circulate a peti tion among themselves calling for in
