lehigh university v 01.98 n0.22 social policy argued at full forum meeting administration and student body rosenblatt said she added that the proposals were generated through the combined efforts of the interfrat ernity and panhellenic councils soci al policy committee the council of student presidents and the forum social policy committee the goal is to devise policies that everybody can understand accept work with and benefit the majority of the student body rosenblatt said while these proposals represent the attempt to address the numerous pressures and concerns that face our social lifestyle they are compromises which will likely be unacceptable to the board and faculty it is likely that these proposals will not be enough rosenblatt said basic expectations for the hosts of a social function it is designed to help give hosts more control over their social events the proposal calls for the host of a social function to have at least four members to maintain security of the events these members will be required to see that the host is comply ing with the university social policy rules those are monitoring the flow of individuals in and out of the facility or party area prohibiting those visibly intoxicated from entering and check ing for identification rosenblatt said it is up to the host of a function to monitor the security and safety of their own function she student co-chairwoman katie zilligen 88 addressed the standing room only crowd of students faculty and administrators saying the primary purpose of this meeting is to discuss tentative social policy guidelines pam rosenblatt 88 and jill hoexter 89 co-chairwomen of the social policy subcommittee outlined the proposals and led discussion as they began several students passed around a save the hill obtain signatures for a petition to make soviet jewry a topic on the agenda of soviet union general secretary mikhail gorbachev during his visit to washington this week kamp will give the petition of 400 signatures to the national coalition for soviet jewry who will give it to president reagan sunday is the national day for mobilization for soviet jewry kamp said thousands of supporters will rally sunday in front of the white house in protest of soviet jewry there are currently about 400,000 jews in the soviet union who are denied religious freedom they have also been prevented from cm mi deliberate attempts to destroy intellectual property to civil authorities for prosecution according to a policy statement released by bruce fritchman assistant vice president of computing and communication services the policy statement was a result of a virus found in the lehigh computer system last week destruction of property real or intellectual is in violation of the code of conduct according to the statement more importantly it is also in violation of at least two federal laws and a state law fritchman said destruction of intellectual property is considered a criminal offense according to the statement students need to be aware that destruction of any property...is a violation of the student code of conduct and everyone needs to be aware that it is a criminal act to deliberately destroy intellectual property students caught violating the code of conduct in this way will be subject to severe disciplinary action which may include suspension associate dean of students terrence curran concured i think his fritchman concern is not only genuine but warranted he said in the event that a person is caught i will recommend that suspension be considered he said cases involving this will be taken very seriously because it is not only a violation of the university but of individuals currently precautions are in place to prevent the virus from re-infecting the system all disks that are checked out at public sites are being checked after they are returned fritchman said so a re-appearance of the virus can be detected immediately he added that the university is seeking legal opinion on the extent of the violation the virus is a self perpetuating program that infects the disks it comes in contact with and eventually destroys all the data on the disk infected disks can be fixed by taking them to the computing center or getting fix from the network server memos about the problem have been sent to all server users weiner asked anyone who has any
