lehigh university v 01.99 n0.41 kossar wins re-vote by 2 bynickchini brown and white news writer rob kossar won the office of senior class president in wednesday's re-election in the university center kossar narrowly won with 83 votes beating runner-up mark lesnik by two votes rich rosier came in third with 52 votes the re-election was held after allegations by kossar and rosier that the winner of the original election lesnik violated election rules by allegedly campaigning in the u.c during last week's election kossar and rosier also said they were in the u.c at this time but denied that they were campaigning the class of 1988 officers called for the re-vote after rosier and kossar filed letters of appeal with president of the class of 88 jeff enslin according to enslin none of the candidates were in the u.c from 10 a.m until 2 p.m during wednesday's re-vote in which election rules were posted on the ballot boxes he said the re election went well and was run fairly kossar agreed commenting i am pleased with the results and am very enthusiastic about the upcoming year kossar said he has already started working with the new class officers in meetings scheduled for yesterday and fraternity liable and perhaps the university liable when people under 21 are caught drinking at lehigh he explained according to blaum underage drinking is no longer a part of growing up or a rite of passage it is against the law and it will send you to jail the law stipulates that people und er the age of 21 will have their drivers licenses suspended for 90 days if convicted of buying alcoholic bev erages lying about their age in order to buy them or possessing false identif ication 300 fine people selling or furnishing alcohol to minors will be liable for a minimum fine of 1,000 for the first offense and 2,500 for subsequent offenses identi cal fines will also be imposed on people convicted of making or selling false identification cards the pennsylvania state police are no longer winking or playing games with underage drinking blaum said and once the law is in effect i think we'll see more raids recent raids for underage drinking by police at bloomsburg university and at car see new law page 6 offenders convicted a second time will have their licenses suspended for a full year and a third or subsequent conviction will bring a mandatory two year suspension of the license 19 1988 actor james doohan best known for his role as scotty on the television series star trek spoke tuesday night in grace hall recalling his days aboard the starship enterprise as well as his other acting experiences i wondered why it took so long for you to invite me here doohan said whatever the reason which is very difficult to fathom my thoughts count less times have been with lehigh university after a standing ovation from an audience of almost 500 people dooh an began his presentation by showing a movie entitled space shuttle mis sion to the future which he narrated doohan compared his interest in sci ence and the advancement of technol ogy to his character on star trek called two weeks later by the director of the show who asked him to do his accents for the star trek people he was handed one page of the script and then proceeded to do seven or eight different accents or dialects the director asked doohan which he preferred and he replied since scotsmen are famous engineers i like the scottish one best the director agreed and thus the character of montgomery scott was born the best part of the performance according to lehigh students was james doohan himself he brought back the magic and ideas associated with star trek " senior mike eoga said doohan ended the show with what he referred to as his scottish toast nobody could possibly be as good as we are doohan said to be that good they'd have to be dead he's exactly what you'd expect of an actor from star trek " sophomore dan marshall said he was hopeful for the future he showed as the series did that mankind can and will move on to bigger and better things the space shuttle is one of the greatest engineering feats doohan said we just have to do it right and we will he then showed clips of star trek bloopers in which captain kirk and the crew walked into doors before they opened stumbled over stairs and mix ed up lines the highlight of the evening was the question-and-answer session stu dents and others were given the oppor tunity to ask doohan questions which ranged from how old was mr spock to did you have any offstage love affairs with any of the actresses on the show when asked how he won the role of scotty doohan explained that it was actually a fluke he had been trying out for a part as a scotland yard inspector for another show called burk's law in which he did three
