explained this was a result of the world war 11 and when veterans returned in the late 1940s enrollment increased to 3,000 undergraduates in reference to lehigh's fund-rais ing programs franz explained one change has been how young people have increasingly been adding shots of vitality keeping our program in the forefront he said there used to be two steps to successful fund raising to pay a per sonal visit and then to ask for a specific amount now lehigh has phone-a thons with participation from both alumni and undergraduates fur thermore lehigh also has a class reunion gift program he then discussed two types of change in fund-raising techniques first there is fast fund raising which is when one has to improvise with spur of the moment conversation the second technique is slow fund raising which is studied and well planned franz related a fund-raising story saying he was asked to approach a man to convince him to give money to lehigh he said this man claimed he something that will have lots of invol vement and participation we need to bond the senior class to promote unity according to kathy plaia vice president of the class of bb the voter turnout was comparable if not better than last year more than 760 students voted in wednesday's elections including 268 rising seniors 250 juniors and 226 sophomores the class of 90 representatives are michelle kaskel as president kirn schwartz as vice-president debra klinek as treasurer and amy feinste in as secretary klinek was re-elected to a second year in office the class of 91 representatives are doug devincens as president stacy levine as vice-president mary d'agostino as secretary and todd grimsrud as treasurer devincens levine and d'agostino were all elec ted to a second term bydinaalcure brown and white desk editor mark lesnik was elected president of the class of 89 and judy bernstein the new vice president in elections for class representatives held wednes day afternoon in the university center cynthia belle was re-elected to a second term as class of 89 treasurer and beth-ann malinowski will be secretary i am very excited about the posi tion lesnik said adding lesnik said he has already begun thinking of plans for next semester we have to start thinking about a speaker for graduation early in the year he said i hope we can also get some kind of fundraisers organized early like the varies from region to region which causes the admin istration to be very nervous the administra tion is going to focus on the safety of the students rather than on the enforcement of the 21-year drinking age this does not mean that we are sanctioning violation of any law but when we are faced with this difficult problem of many students drinking underage-we will focus on your safety not age the administration is trusting you the students to act as responsible adults don't flaunt it just be sensible be sober don't be stupid likins explained likins said at no time is alcohol allowed on be closely scrutinized by the administration board of trustees and the outside community included among observers will be members of the middle states association who will be visiting from sunday until wednesday to view the administration and campus activities and to re-accredit the university said linda seeloff director of institutional studies the association which visits once every 10 years will study the administration's methods used to run the school seeloff said if something were to explode this week on campus they might come back and take a closer look to see if we really should be
