it was the 1957 world series and the braves were playing the yankees hank aaron was up to bat and yogi eeiva was catching in an attempt to distract aaron bcrra made a comment about making the trademark on the bat readable aaron responded i didn't come here to read i came here to hit said roy herrenkohl keynote speaker sunday at lehigh's 17th honors convocation to a group of 300 juniors and seniors herrenkohl vice provost for research and dean of graduate studies as well as a licensed psychologist used the legendary baseball player as an example of focusing on a goal and not letting anything get 1 in the way of achieving that goal the students in the audience represent ed by all three schools have received a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher or have received academic recogni tion herrenkohfs speech focused on the importance of becoming a leader within the context of teamwork in today's society recognition is not just for the leader but for everyone who made success possi ble herrenkohi said everyone must learn to listen and everyone must learn to trust listening ccmmunicat ig and trust ing are all a necessary part of t j urn work bolieve each team member wil and can do his or her part to achieve the goal herrenkohi concluded by saying that the students honored at the convocation have exhibited the characteristics r.ecessary to become leaders each honoree present today has achieved a significant milestone and has been a leader he said mark erickson director and dean of student life said herrenkohl's speech was impressive i thought it was appropriate and on tar get erickson said students thought herrenkohi was realis tic and motivating jason erk 98 said herrenkohi gave good advice on leadership h would be a mentor in the jture the program concluded w n a benedic smart center plans finalized by molly maginn news writer lehigh announced last friday that an agreement had been final ized for the sale and purchase of bethlehem steel's office building at 501 e third street the university was able to announce the plans after receiving an anonymous but somewhat restricted donation to apply toward the purchase and renova tion of the property the building formerly the site of bethlehem steel's plant office will oe the site of lehigh's smart discovery center after the deal goes through the center is an owned sub sidiary of the university governed by its own separate board and will move once all of the sched uled renovations are completed the smart center present ly leases space from bethlehem steel at 715 e third street the center sponsors hands-on science and math workshops and enrichment programs for bethlehem's regional elementary and secondary school students as well as programs with their par ents and teachers programs for this summer include the construction of a laser l'ght show a summer camp focus ing on architecture skills and a safety workshop for science teachers the smart center is also responsible for the live scientific broadcast known as the jason project that has been held on lehigh's campus in grace hall for the past five years judy bezler executive director and chief executive officer of the smart discovery center and an associate professor in the college of education is excited about the center's upcoming move to a new location with its promise of renovation and inter nal change the renovations will allow us to expand the present attractions that we offer to the students that come here bezler said bezler said the center will ben efit the university's plans to offer new attractions the center will have a 3-d imax theater in addition to a big ger general facility bezler said lehigh president peter likins commented in a press release about lehigh's participation in the center's formation and its sub sequent relocation this gift represents a com mitment to the children of our community and we accept our host responsibilities with appreci ation of the trust implied filled the ulrich student center for students wellness day on monday the residence hall association counseling services wellness center health center fitness center campus ministry newman center dining services and safe space set up informative booths around the ulrich center we tried to bring campus organizations from each dimension of the wellness wheel said ginger deßias wellness center program coordinator the wellness wheel is a symbol used by the wellness center to encourage students to live well rounded and develop healthy lifestyles forming a circular figure the wheel is
