adopt a policy of equalizing educational oppor tunity in tax supported schools through annual grants we are speaking especially for the children of those states which are spending a higher proportion of their income for education but can not start to match the financial power of the rich states stated vincent n baxter staten island n v and omar n gjerness eau clare wis of wagner college lehigh debaters newton frishberg arts 50 and paul handwerk i.e 52 admitted that weaknesses exist in the american school system but that the inequalities exist in states not between them they presented statistics to show that negroes in rich states like new jersey and california are not receiving much more education than the negroes in a poor state like georgia only bureauocracy and the possibility that the federal government will eventually con trol education much as it is controlled now in communistic russia and as it had been in nazi germany were some of the negative arguments handwerk a freshman who crashed into the role of repre senting lehigh in line with the debate club's policy of choos ing men on ability and not sen iority contended that the fed eral government should collect of the performers was wasted on this too heavy work a lighter work would have scor ed heavily with this cast pre pared as it was for its measure of success the players had come along slowly but well friday could easily have meant their modest arrival miss sandra bishoff as gwen performed with a flair unusual for one so young it was heatrening to watch her refreshing gestres in a work which
