memorial church sun day morning the protestant leader known in most religious circles simply as dan poling holds three posi tions any one of which would be enough to make him a pow erful influence in religion dr poling is the pastor of the baptist temple in philadelphia an evangelical church he has been president of the world's christian endeavor union a religious youth group having over four mililon members for the past twenty years in addi tion he is the editor of chris tian herald this threefold job accord ing to the post article com pels dr poling to travel around 50,000 miles a year he has flown 650,000 miles and has rounded the world twice fighting dan poling defends his stands on current issues wherever he finds them under debate he came out solidly behind the universal military training program robert e sherwood the play wright once commented on dr poling saying the whole united states is his parish mr sherwood might have said the whole globe since there are few hall the student concert - lecture series committee announced on wednesday the lecture is intended to be a bonus program for all holders of season tickets a limited number of tickets for the general public will also be available at the box office mr russell will be remem bered by movie audiences as homer parish the handless vet eran in the best years of our lives this role which won the acclaim of many hollywood critics was written for him by robert e.sherwood noted play wright and biographer on june 6 1944 as an instruc tor in demolition at camp mackall sgt russell attached a defective fuse to a half-pound charge of tnt it exploded in his grasp when he regained consciousness in the emergency ward of the field hospital he discovered that both his hands had been amputated at the wrists russell was born in cam bridge mass 32 years ago and has lived all his life apart from his army career within sight of the charles river after graduation from rindge tech nical high school he went to work for a nationally known chain grocery concern first as a counterman then as a meat cutter and finally as store man ager russell enlisted in the para chute troops in feb 1942 and had made 51 successful jumps when he was hospitalized af ter his army discharge he en rolled in the college of business administration at boston uni versity at the present time mr russell is booked for a limited lecture tour at the nation's leading colleges he emphasized the fact that the forthcoming festival will not be merely a musical pro duction but rather a medium to solicit the varied interests of the entire student body using glass and plastic as im portant materials in stage con struction the festival will ac cept the challenge of the exper imental theater space staging and stylized setting will com bine with straight line effects in contrast to last year's em phasis on curves we will balance physical or ganization on the stage added schwarz by combining both the legitimate theater and mo tion pictures drown hall will be used as a motion picture studio during production the motion pictures will be used as part of the theatrical whole they will never be shown in continuity he stated the as julie cavendish america's greatest actress miss kirchman has appeared in cyrano de ber gerac the mikado and in a number of radio workshop pro ductions herbert dean brother of fan ny cavendish who
