electric bloomfield n j and the ford assembly plant at metuchen n j two departments of the lehigh university college of en gineering planned annual field trips for their students this week these trips are designed to give them an insight into how what they are learning can be applied in various fields in cluding the industrial world a group of 242 industrial en gineering and mechanical engi neering students all seniors left monday for a three-day in spection trip of industrial plants in the metropolitan new york area and near-by new jersey the group was divided into seven sections each headed by a faculty member in order to facilitate plant visits faculty members accompanying the boys are prof thomas e jack son prof arthur c bates prof ronald j sweeney george c shay james m beauchamp e melvin ramberg and robert c whitehead among the plants to be vis ited are general motors corp m trenton the power plant at the hotel new yorker which will be the group's headquar ters during the stay johnson and johnson suture and per sonal products plant in new brunswick n j westinghouse corp lamp division trenton and bloomfield n j colgate palmolive - peet co in jersey city n j and bristol myers hillside n j maxwell house coffee plant at hoboken amer rotc defers advanced mil transferees deferments will be sup plied by the mil department to students who have completed the basic rotc course at other schools and who wish to take the advanced course at lehigh this policy will affect gradu ates of military prep schools who have competed basic rotc course before entering college they can be deferred from the draft until their junior year when they will be eligible to take the advanced course application for deferment un der the above program can be made at the mil department office roslyn laguardia air field and st george ferry terminal staten island on monday the group will be the guests of the new jersey state highway department and of the city of paterson where they will visit extensive hous ing units tuesday they will visit ward's island sewage dis posal plant hillside avenue sub way extension on long island and the van wyck express high way between jamaica and the international airport which will also be included on the tour the group will be under the direction of prof merton o fuller prof roger e kolni and robert e crispen all members of the civil engineering
