arcadia head lauds athletic building above is an artist's sketch of the swimming pool planned for the new addition to taylor gymnasium the gallery will accommodate 600 spectators founder's day sunday suchter of harvard speaks degrees to 111 one hundred and eleven sen iors will receive baccalaureate degrees at the annual founder's day exercises on sunday ad vanced degrees will go to 32 graduate students dr sumner h slichter la mont professor of economics at harvard university will be the speaker for the graduation ex ercises which will begin at 2:30 - p.m in packer memorial church dr martin d whitaker will confer the baccalaureate de grees prizes and honors will be - announced by dr wray h congdon director of personnel services dr slichter who will be ' awarded the honorary degree of doctor of laws at the cere mony is the author of many books in the economic and in dustrial relations field he has served as chairman of a board appointed by the governor of . massachusetts and as arbitra i tor in numerous labor disputes dr philip mason palmer dean of the college of arts and sci ( ences will present the candi dates for bachelor of arts de grees candidates for the de gree of bachelor of science in k business administration will be presented by dr carl e allen acting curriculum director candidates for engineering degrees will be presented by dr harvey a neville head of the department of chemistry and chemical engineering thirty one candidates for graduate de grees will be presented by pro fessor robert p more secretary of the graduate faculty an announcement early this week that a new gymnasium annex will be constructed imme diately was hailed by students alumni and faculty as another milestone in the development of modern facilities for future stu dents charles w nicholls president of arcadia said the action of the board of trustees in approv ing this new gymnasium makes me particularly happy since i regard this action as another example of the trend toward making a university more than just an institution of learning dr wray h congdon direc tor of personnel services hailed the action as the elimination of another bottleneck in the field of student activities at le high the health morale and general well-being of a student body are we believe directly affected by the adequacy of these recreational facilities interdormitory council presi dent william a nichols said that the decision of the board of trustees to improve the phy sical education facilities will be welcome news to dormitory men the dormitory living group he said is in a better intercollegiate swimming cham pionship meets here comment ed percy l sadler director of intercollegiate athletics the project has been under study by the trustees commit tee for the past nine months and they chose jens frederick larson internationally known architect of new york to han dle the structure financing of 878 vote on packers in survey follow up the new addition will be made possible from funds secured during the current lehigh prog ress fund drive in addition to the new swim ming pool which will seat 600 spectators the new annex will contain a large gymnasium on the second floor and three smaller gymnasium units other features of the new building will be an enlarged wrestling room a boxing room separate quarters for fencing locker fa cilities for approximately 2,600 continued timent which accompanied the choosing of the name packers for the football team in a con test co-sponsored by the inter raternity council and the brown and white whittaker began his survey towards the close of the summer semester to arrive at a more concrete consensus of opinion working alone whittaker is contacting approximately 200 students a week an approxi mate ratio of five to one op nosed to the present name has been maintained when a rep resentative number of students is reached whittaker intends to submit results to arcadia along with a plan of action the lehigh university brow n an d
