the brown and white lehigh university's student newspaper founded in 1894 vol 105 no 20 tuesday november 1 8 1 997 all the lehigh news first morris remembered by lynn windley news writer memorial service comforts lehigh community students and faculty gathered in packer memorial chapel friday to remember their friend edward tyler morris 98 who died unexpectedly a week earlier rev dr lloyd steffen university chap lain said the service was held in order to provide some closure for students and to remember tyler fondly we are here to comfort one another to recognize the pain death brings steffen said we come together in pain and joy to celebrate the life of edward tyler morris steffen said he wanted to help every one get past the tragedy and the loss of a great friend the death of one diminishes all steffen said during the service many friends and fac ulty members who were a part of morris life stood up and talked about morris and what he contributed to their life it was done as a way of getting past the tragedy and reflecting on morris personality kenneth sinclair professor of account ing talked about morris demeanor we mourn here a man who lived for the small pleasures of life sinclair said tyler always saw the good life the posi tive things he came to every class and earned a high grade what struck me most about tyler was his character and attitude sinclair said andrew braham 98 president of phi gamma delta the fraternity in which morris was a brother spoke about his longtime companion ty's been my best friend since pre school braham said braham told stories about competitions he often had with morris anyone that ever knew ty knew that he had a competitive edge he said he touched people everywhere ty would want everyone to continue on it's time to celebrate his life another student and friend james kelly 98 stood up to pay tribute to morris he helped me to live kelly said kelly told a story about morris fun side ty kept doing his macho man randy savage imitation he said it was always fun to be with tyler john paul professor of business also spoke about morris tyler gave much more in life than he got in return paul said paul spoke about how morris death had an impact on him i am reminded of how fragile we are he said he encouraged students and faculty to help anyone in need and to be more consid erate of others paul said he hoped this tragedy would prevent a similar incident from occurring in the future during the service students and facul ty wore solemn but laughed at amusing remarks and anecdotes champions b w photo hy ashley merlin the volleyball team won the patriot league championship sunday after upsetting top-seeded bucknell 3-2 in the final game they defeated navy 3-1 in the semi-finals the previous day now the team will go to the ncaa playoffs global village is looking for a few good leaders by brandon wallace news writer the global village for future leaders of business and industry held an open house meeting wednesday in lamberton hall to let interested students sample aspects of the program professional staff members from the lacocca institute which operates the global village were present to answer questions about the program's purposes benefits structure and goals the global village is an eight-week long summer intern ship in which the first six weeks are spent at lehigh and the final two are spent in washington d.c the program is designed to expose its participants to the kinds of leadership and business skills and qualities needed to succeed in an increasingly interconnected and competitive world fifty-three students from 26 countries including 12 from lehigh participated in a program which started last summer through hands-on experiences interaction with students of diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and guidance from various business executives and professionals the pro gram emphasizes personal development growth and the opportunity to learn in each learning experience there will be a general lesson to discover an adaptable principle to grasp and use in imagineering the future a global village brochure said kelley mcdade 98 was a participant last summer she said she gained from the international and cross-cul tural dimensions one of the best parts about it was being able to meet people from other countries mcdade said i came to learn about their cultures and cultural mannerisms juris vitols 98 another participant also valued the sum mer experience the best thing was having the chance to interact with many business executives vitols said we had the oppor tunity to share our cultures listen and learn from successful people and experience how to manage business the motivation to achieve and make oneself a better more knowledgeable and well-rounded person is highly val ued by participants i feel much more confident about interviews and getting into the business world now than i did before mcdade said students are assisted by staff members in designing the kind of experience that best fits their needs aspirations and interests a wide selection of seminars and exercises ranging from such topics as organizational aligning risk taking see global page 6 emit when the sun is overhead the temperature on the lunar equator reaches 243 degrees fahrenheit source the 1997 guinness book of world records drug that was given to
