authority on american folk songs and has earned for him the title of american trouba dour the cleaver memorial fund was provided by the late mrs albert n cleaver of bethlehem in memory of her husband native of kentucky the concert to which the public is invited will begin at 8:15 p.m there will be no ad mission charged a program of american folk songs by tom scott well-known singer composer and arranger will be presented by lehigh university on friday evening oct 8 in broughal high school auditorium under the auspices of the cleaver memorial fund william h schempf chairman of the fund committee an nounced today general dwight d eisen hower's inauguration as presi dent of columbia university on october 12 will find president martin d whitaker present as lehigh's representative lehigh will also be repre sented at the presidential inau gurations of other colleges and universities throughout the east during this coming month william r allgaier lehigh 20 of potsdam n v will be lehigh's delegate when jess harrison davis is installed as head of clarkson college of technology on oct 8 also at tending davis inauguration will be dr w leon godshall pro fessor and head of lehigh's de partment of international rela tions who will represent pi gamma nu national social sci ence honor society and the american political science as sociation at the inauguration of ralph a van meter conducting an advanced class in painting and modeling at lehigh under the university's adult education program according to professor garth a howland head of the department of fine arts german p.o.w writes . town council gets message from heidelberg undergrad last spring town council made its contribution to the co operative for american remittances to europe program care in the form of a package sent to an undergraduate of heidelberg university germany labeled care for heidelberg the program has unfortunately prompted too little response among campus circles nevertheless the result has been gratifying hans rein to whom town council sent its package recently expressed his appreciation in a letter which permits a glimpse into german campus life idc calls referendum hits saturday dance mr knight's class which is held on tuesday evenings is for advanced students who have had considerable experience or practice in painting the university is also offer ing an elementary course in drawing and painting for adults this course is conducted by thomas f regan assistant in lehigh's department of fine arts instructor in drawing and painting in the school of paint ing and sculpture at columbia continued on page 5 col 2 student veterans whose de pendency status changed during the summer vacation are re minded by veterans adminis tration to submit proof of addi tional dependency as soon as possible to the appropriate va regional office in which their records are filed veterans with dependents who are studying in schools and colleges under the g-i bill are eligible for additional subsist ence payments however legal proof such as certified copies of public records of birth baptism marriage di vorce or other evidence must be in their va training file in order to qualify single veterans studying un der the g-i bill are eligible for monthly subsistence allowances ud to 75 veterans with one dependent may receive 105 per month and veterans with two or more dependents 120 veterans should submit evi dence of dependency at once the inter-dormitory council had its first meeting september 28 with a discussion of the sat urday night houseparty dance as the main topic it was suggested that trigger for the opening shot of the university social calendar will be the lehigh engineers as they fire a broad side of larry clinton music into grace hall october 9 from 9:00 p.m to 1:00 a.m the annual informal dance is expected to be the climax of a big weekend in which the brown and white gridders make their first home appearance against drexel the affair which is sponsored by tau beta pi pi tau sigma and eta kappa nu is an engi neers ball in name only as the first big university week end this combination of a fam ous name band and the first home football clash presents a campus-wide appeal for all stu dents the engineers touch will be felt only in the entertain ment field as the double e's take over to provide a novel study in light colorful decorations grace hall will be bathed in multicolored beams of light streaming from the ceiling ac cording to bill kilroy chairman of decorations the walls will be decorated by playing ultra violet lights on fluorescent painted panels a revolving mirror will reflect this triumph of color to all corners of the dance floor as it slowly turns above the heads of dancers larry clinton who is pres ently feauring the well-known peggy lee of benny goodman fame is well known for his danceable music in keeping with the trend in styles clinton is presenting a new look in music the twelve-piece outfit continued on page 6 col 5 vets must
