according to a survey by the national industrial conference board of new york city lehigh university was rated as the second most popular source of recruits in the united states among non-manufacturing com panies harvard was rated as the most popular source with le high as second among the ten leaders others listed in order were princeton yale massa chusetts institute of technol ogy illinois purdue pennsyl vania northwestern and pitts burgh the report covered the college employment practices of 46 top ranking companies such as utilities insurance firms transportation and communica tion services banks and retail stores a parallel survey of manufacturing companies found neither lehigh nor harvard among the top ten in the course of its report the conference board states there are approximately one thousand well - established col leges and universities in the united states with the excep tion of the women's colleges all are potential sources for train ees from the company view point some are better than others the size of the college is an important factor the na ture and quality of the train ing offered are others for prac tical reasons most companies tend to call on the large good schools which are within easy access some colleges are so much in demand that they re ceive thousands of inquiries an nually from all parts of the country 5 robins morgan director of placement at lehigh university in commenting on the report said it is indeed gratifying to find lehigh's name rated so high in popularity by the non manufacturing companies which recruit at the various colleges especially since lehigh is the smallest college listed it is also encouraging to note that the conference board re ports were prepared prior to the recruiting season for 1948 graduates during which season there were over 60 more in terview programs held on the lehigh campus than there were during the previous scholastic year photo by stern m.s from lehigh in 1931 and his
