journalism division of the english department while attending graduate school at louisiana state university professor wynn made a study of propagan da techniques of the huey long faction later he be came the editorial writer for the durham n c morn ing herald and subsequent ly worked for several other southern newspapers able to assume that 4,000,000 negroes will cast ballots in the south in november further more they are not likely to for get that a negro keynoted the progressive party convention and that a negro is on the executive committee of the par ty in spite of the opposition of such negro leaders as walter white the negro vote in the south will probably be over whelming for wallace continued on page 4 commenting on the possible alienation of the poor southern white prof wynn reminded that the south is not as con servative as it may appear at first glance a look at the rec ord will reveal that wherever there has been a choice between reaction and liberalism the south has tended to go liberal where there has been no such where the negro has a clear legal right to the vote he ex ercises it to a marked degree it is therefore not inconceiv the states rights party of thurmond and wright is repre sentative of the old south it is a reactionary clique which has dominated that area for so long a time the present group is attempting to keep the race issue hot thereby using it as a smoke screen for their failure to advocate progressive meas ures for their people it is my belief expressed prof wynn that the so-called dixiecrats are a good 25 years behind the voters electoral minority the negro has voted in unprecedented numbers all over the south in recent years recent court de cisions have virtually guaran teed the negro the right to vote in all elections asked about the chances of wallace's progressive party with respect to the south prof wynn replied wallace's none - too clear foreign policy plank will overshadow his domestic plank to the extent that his showing will not be strong in the south this year prof wynn believes however that wallace will be considerably stronger than the gallup poll has thus far pre dicted once established more over the
