originality minute of speaking time and the judges of the contest were dr adellbert ford dean charles a siedle professor h barrett davis and mssrs patterson ben ner and a a rights returns show election spirit 1656 cast ballots 61 of student body vote by thomas gabuzda the final compilation of the re sults of last week's election has re vealed some noteworthy facts a total of 1656 students amounting to 61 of the student body voted this is slightly less than last elec tion's 67 but should not be taken as an idication of lack of enthus iasm in spite of this slight de crease of percentages the propor tion of voters per candidate was the same for both elections in each the ratio was 53 voters per candidate the spirit of the elections was indicated by the remarkable close ness of the voting at the eleventh transfer of ballots only seven men were elected there were a total of 16 transfers on the sixteenth bruce keene and doug carlton were tied to determine the win ner the counters had to go back four transfers to the twelfth be fore any difference in the count showed up and then the difference was only one vote with keene coming out on top a repeat proportion it is also interesting to note that the proportion of the winners ac cording to living groups was the same as last semester eight fra ternities five dormitory and two town men the checking of the affidavits revealed that the voters were in this same proportion of 8-5-2 thus proving the effective ness of the pr system although several students failed to make enough choices the num ber was much less than at the last election of the total number of ballots only 6 were exhaused as a result of insufficient choices the counting of the ballots su pervised by egorge howatt in structor in government vas finish ed in the remarkably short time of three hours the affidavits were checked in five hours no signific ant cases of fraudulent voting were discovered rotc takes exam holds last drill rotc cadets total of 1656 students amounting to 61 of the student body voted this is slightly less than last elec tion's 67 but should not be taken as an idication of lack of enthus iasm in spite of this slight de crease of percentages the propor tion of voters per candidate was the same for both elections in each the ratio was 53 voters per candidate the spirit of the elections was indicated by the remarkable close ness of the voting at the eleventh transfer of ballots only seven men were elected there were a total of 16 transfers on the sixteenth bruce keene and doug carlton were tied to determine the win ner the counters had to go back four transfers to the twelfth be fore any difference in the count showed up and then the difference was only one vote with keene coming out on top a repeat proportion it is also interesting to note that the proportion of the winners ac cording to living groups was the same as last semester eight fra ternities five dormitory and two town men the checking of the affidavits revealed that the voters were in this same proportion of 8-5-2 thus proving the effective ness of the pr system although several students failed to make enough choices the num ber was much less than at the last election of the total number of ballots only 6 were exhaused as a result of insufficient choices the counting of the ballots su pervised by egorge howatt in structor in government vas finish ed in the remarkably short time of three hours the affidavits were checked in five hours no signific ant cases of fraudulent voting were discovered rotc takes exam
