lockwood beaver college student sang don't take your love from me with donahue's orchestra she was well received for her rendition of the tune and both bands showed interest in her many remembered her from the spring music festival the following day which was saturday to all but a few was the scene for many smaller and varied affairs living groups so journed to many sections of the ajoining gilbert and sullivan operetta jane edgar stars in feminine lead cast of fifty includes choral groups from lu local women's college the mikado gilbert and sul livan's satire on japanese court life was presented by the mustard and cheese club last night to an appreciative audience in broughal junior high school auditorium star of the operetta was jane edgar a student at moravian col lege for women who carried the difficult role of yum-yum with a virtuosity unusual in so young an actress the talented soprano is now one of the leading contenders for the women's prize in the voice of tomorrow contest being held in philadelphia she was entered in the contest by judges who combed pennsylvania colleges in an effort to find the most promis ing young singers in their fields supporting miss edgar was a cast of fifty including choral groups from lehigh and from moravian college for women the male lead of nanki-poo was por trayed by robert taylor a le high student who acquitted him self has announced that the official university record collection has at last been incor porated into the library the rec ords are now being catalogued and will be available to the gen eral student body for playing a headset will allow students to listen to the classics during the regular day hours the console however is only to be used on weekday nights from 7 p.m to 10 p.m and on sundays from 2 p.m to 5 p.m during these hours the use of the headsets will not be required there will be a student on duty who will handle the records and the console mr schempf has ask ed that students respect the wishes of this person and refrain from abuse of the equipment the carnegie collection which was removed from its former home in drown hall is now complete but records are continuously being released 49 scl concert rescheduled for may 19 20 postponement arranged after orchestra prexy requested cancellation three concerts by the detroit symphony orchestra orginally scheduled for friday and satur day may 7 and 8 have been post poned to wednesday and thurs day may 19 and 20 the decision was reached late wednesday after noon by the student concerts lectures series committee at a special meeting the postponement was decided upon after dr martin d whita ker president of the university received a letter from henry h reichhold president of the detroit symphony orchestra association which stated that a cancellation was being requested because of a sudden levy by the musicians union for this special trip the extra mileage charges quoted would amount to between 20 and 25 per musician in the 98-piece orchestra replacement unavailable after checking on other avail able talent the committe learned that its attempt for an adequate replacement was unsuccessful a two-hour conference saturday afternoon by president witaker charles j moravec university news editor and faculty chairman of the committee and john i kirkpatrick university treasurer resulted in an airplane trip to de troit by mr kirkpatrick on mon day use same tickets during the monday conferences in detroit it was learned that the cancellation may develop into a postponement telephone calls on tuesday and wednesday cleared dates programming and travel and the new dates were set students holding pink tickets for the friday evening may 7 concerts will be admitted on the same tickets on wednesday even ing may 19 university guest tickets for that evening will be honored on may 19 refunds will be issued only for white tickets for that evening the school children's concert will be given late thursday after noon may 20 in straw ballot taken to determine status of excess profit system arcadia voted against honoraria by a 5-4 straw vote at the open hearing held last wednesday the straw vote was taken after a long remain as the basis 2 freshmen would be limited to a total number of 25 cuts 3 juniors with an average of 2.75 or better and seniors with an average of 2.5 or better would be allowed unlimited cuts on heiser and ethan a smith senior society to give awards two 300 scholarship awards are being made available by omicron delta kappa national senior hon orary for the ensuing academic year it has been announced by the national secretary of odk in order to be eligible for one of the scholarships an applicant must be an active member of odk must be a senior regularly enrolled for a bachelor's degree and must have received a bachelor's degree and be prepared to enter upon a definite course of graduate study at an accredited institution of ad vanced education beginning with the fall semester of the year of his graduation each scholarship applicant is re quired to file a formal application on an official odk scholarship blank at lehigh these may be secured from associate dean j d leith secretary of xi circle local chapter of odk all applications must be in the hands of the national secretary of odk not later than may 25 ap plications and supporting data will be assembled checked and refer red 49 scl concert rescheduled for may 19 20 postponement arranged after orchestra prexy requested cancellation three concerts by the detroit symphony orchestra orginally scheduled for friday and satur day may 7 and 8 have been post poned to wednesday and thurs day may 19 and 20 the decision was reached late wednesday after noon by the student concerts lectures series committee at a special meeting the postponement was decided upon after dr martin d whita ker president of the university received a letter from henry h reichhold president of the detroit symphony orchestra association which stated that a cancellation was being requested because of a sudden levy by the musicians union for this special trip the extra mileage charges quoted would amount to between 20 and 25 per musician in the 98-piece orchestra replacement unavailable after checking on other avail able talent the committe learned that its attempt for an adequate replacement was unsuccessful a two-hour conference saturday afternoon by president witaker charles j moravec university news editor and faculty chairman of the committee and john i kirkpatrick university treasurer resulted in an airplane trip to de troit by mr kirkpatrick on mon day use same tickets during the monday conferences in detroit it was learned that the cancellation may develop into a postponement telephone calls on tuesday and wednesday cleared dates programming and travel and the new dates were set students holding pink tickets for the friday evening may 7 concerts will be admitted on the same tickets on wednesday even ing may 19 university guest tickets for that evening will be honored on may 19 refunds will be issued only for white tickets for that evening the school children's concert will be given late thursday after noon may 20 in grace hall the public concert will be held that evening tickets for the may 20 concert are on sale at the leading music stores of bethlehem at the colleges of the lehigh valley and at the supply bureau the prices are 1.20 1.80 and 2.40 details for the concerts will be concluded by the end of this week announcements will be made as programs are selected arcadia votes against plan of honoraria straw ballot taken to determine status of excess profit system arcadia voted against honoraria by a 5-4 straw vote at the open hearing held last wednesday the straw vote was taken after a long discussion of the issue in which both sides were adequately pre sented honoraria is the division of ex cess profits of an organization among its members particularly concerned are the brown and white and the epitome the argu ment against led by al macauley stated that the principle of hon oraria was not right other oppon ents pointed out thaht material istc rewards should not be hand ed out to men as an incentive for participation in activities stan lawler of brown and white argued strongly for the division of the excehs profits he defined honoraria as a partial re ward given to men who had work ed far harder than thhe corres ponding value of the money given he added that the students were not paying for it through the stu dent activities fund because they received far in excess of their moneys worth in the services rendered by the brown and white dean charles a seidle and charles j moravec were present representing the board of control al cacauley and peter sngleson were present from cut suggestions sophomores to remain on the present system seniors would change arcadia last wednesday arriv sd at the following suggestions for changing the cut system 1 the present system would remain as the basis 2 freshmen would be limited to a total number of 25 cuts 3 juniors with an average of 2.75 or better and seniors with an average of 2.5 or better would be allowed unlimited cuts on the basis of the previous semester's average 4 sophomores would remain entirely on the present system 5 university sponsored functions would not be considered standard cuts and 6 absolutely no cuts would be allowed directly before or after vacations of a week or more in the last case a penalty of the loss of all subsequent cuts would be imposed ed hamilton representing the brown key society reported on a plan he had in mind to secure a special train to transport students at a greatly reduced rate to one of the football games next season the case institute game at cleve land was suggested hamilton pointed out the success that this plan has met with in stimulating spirit in many other schools he added that both dean congdon and dean seidle aproved of it to make the trip possible however
