crowded than others chase bank ford motors and black & decker all generated interest chris burgess 96 a mechanical engineering major said black & decker caught his eye i really like their aggressive nature they're really interested in people who are self-starters he said everyone has been really friendly though burgess said he handed out 1 5 resumes in the two hours he was there jonathan wolf 95 was at the fair as a repre sentative of cigna an insurance company lehigh didn't publicize that i'm here for cts computer technology systems students see me and think i'm here for the insurance part and students for cts didn't do a lot of research wolf said when they find out what i'm here for a lot of them are ready to throw a resume at us wolf participated in last year's fair and thinks receive information from potential employers at the job fair wednesday voice mail changes aid communication by casey bahrenburg news writer improvements were made to the university's voice message system over the summer the system now enables all stu dents on campus to possess their own voice mailbox if students have roommates there is also a common mailbox which links both personal mailboxes jim stine a graduate student and a voice mail coordinator said the university felt the change was nec essary because there were com plaints from students about not re ceiving their messages the university felt as though they had to improve the system by adding new enhancements like a personal mailbox stine said we had several incidents where students weren't receiving their messages from their roommates and therefore we felt that we had to upgrade the system william brichta associate di rector of telecommunications said lehigh has the best voice message system available especially com pared to other universities the octel system we use is rec ognized both nationally and around the world as being the best system brichta said it's the leader recently brichta was questioned by a colleague from carnegie mellon university who wanted to know how to introduce voice mail to the school it was surprising because com ing from a place that is so well known for its technology i couldn't believe that they didn't have voice mail brichta said lehigh was one of the first universities in the country to get voice mail and that was back in 1990 now in 1995 we have updated our system making it top-notch due to the strong participation of students faculty and staff brichta said the telecommunications staff feel it is their job to keep upgrading the system the participation is close to 90 percent and that is why we feel it is important to keep up with our sub scribers needs he said for the moment we have everything we both want and need if the needs increase we will just adjust accordingly new arts and sciences class tackles tough issues by kristen chanley news writer lehigh upperclassmen now have the option to learn about and discuss social issues facing this life into the classroom odi said these are real issues that the students are going to deal with odi said the team-teaching is the reason the class is so intense the teachers not only moderate but are part of the discussion as well with three instructors there are three per spectives on the issues at hand this allows the students to feel comfort able in the class setting which in spires a more open discussion kimberly gentempo 96 is ex tremely satisfied with the class es pecially with the team teaching the teachers are not teachers they are facilitators we don't get lectured we learn in different ways gentempo said there are no exams in the class the bulk of the work is reading intensive writing and discussion which is all based on the students personal reactions the students are asked to keep journal entries each week these entries are reflections on what occurs in class and how it relates to daily life arts and sciences 250 encour ages critical thinking and fosters dia logue
