bob chester bethlehem pa tuesday september 30 1947 arcadia plans tug-of war grading system snack bar vol lvi no 1 price — 5 cents prevent duplicate forms from be ing handed in he will not have to sign the criticism form these forms will be handled by a com pletely neutral source and under no circumstances will the stu dent's name be forwarded to his instructor plans for the student snack bar are still being drawn up the or iginal plan would place the snack bar directly above the faculty kit chen in drown hall however it was concluded that this location would interfere with the large main room on the second floor and would hinder the assemblies and meetings of various larger clubs the second consideration is to have the hub above the arca dia room in drown hall to fit the soda fountain in this room would entail the knocking out of a wall enlarging a doorway and the relocation of a woman's lavatory — a heavy expenditure estimates on several plans are to be given by andrew w litzenberger super vising architect of the university and superintendent of buildings and grounds that arcadia would sponsor a tug-of-war between the freshman and sophomore classes of foun der's day was concluded by the student government last wednes day night september 24 during the meeting which was the next to last for the present members of the staff arcadia drew up a plan of grading instructors to be recommended to the faculty committee and discussed costs and locations for the proposed student snack bar in drown hall the arcadia backed tug-of-war will take place in taylor stadium between the halves of a game be tween lehigh's junior varsity and freshman football teams wednes day afternoon october 1 this program is part of a new plan to celebrate founder's days in a pre war manner at last wednesday's meeting arcadia also submitted a formal recommendation that a system of grading instructors and courses somewhat along the lines of the princeton method be adopted by the faculty committee this plan would have every student fill out a form on which he would give his opinion in the form of num bers — 4 3 2 or 1 of his instruc tor's ability to teach a course the princeton method was amended by arcadia to the effect that when a student graded a professor below a certain minimum number such as 2 he would have to fill out an additional form stating his reas ons for doing so with constructive criticism added although the in dividual will be requested to put his name on the form that has the numbers grading on it in order to epitome needs staff members brown and white in the event of ratification a special election for choosing mem bers to a new arcadia the stu dent council must be held with in thirty days all regularly ma triculated students except fresh men will be eligible for candidacy to be placed on the ballot a can didate must have a petition en dorsed by one per cent of the stu dent body this referendum will be the fi nal hurdle the constitution must pass to become the highest student law of the campus the constitu tion already bears the impress of another referendum it contains the type of election system recom mended by a referendum held last spring last week the constitu tion successfully passed the final open hearing on the ballot the voters will find the question do you favor the adoption of the proposed con stitution and by-laws more over provision will be made for those who want to vote a partial dissent to indicate the articles or paragraphs they wish to vote against all voters will be re quired to prove their identity as with a bursar's receipt before re ceiving their ballots two days have been designated for voting in order to afford everyone maxi mum opportunity for voting at open hearing if you don't volunteer to help at the polls at the arcadia referendum at least vote lehigh will shine saturday first home football game of this season and first fall dance and it's informal

the criticism form these forms will be handled by a com pletely neutral source and under no circumstances will the stu dent's name be forwarded to his instructor plans for the student snack bar are still being drawn up the or iginal plan would place the snack bar directly above the faculty kit chen in drown hall however it was concluded that this location would interfere with the large main room on the second floor and would hinder the assemblies and meetings of various larger clubs the second consideration is to have the hub above the arca dia room in drown hall to fit the soda fountain in this room would entail the knocking out of a wall enlarging a doorway and the relocation of a woman's lavatory — a heavy expenditure estimates on several plans are to be given by andrew w litzenberger super vising architect of the university and superintendent of buildings and grounds that arcadia would sponsor a tug-of-war between the freshman and sophomore classes of foun der's day was concluded by the student government last wednes day night september 24 during the meeting which was the next to last for the present members of the staff arcadia drew up a plan of grading instructors to be recommended to the faculty committee and discussed costs and locations for the proposed student snack bar in drown hall the arcadia backed tug-of-war will take place in taylor stadium between the wednesday's meeting arcadia also submitted a formal recommendation that a system of grading instructors and courses somewhat along the lines of the princeton method be adopted by the faculty committee this plan would have every student fill out a form on which he would give his opinion in the form of num bers — 4 3 2 or 1 of his instruc tor's ability to teach a course the princeton method was amended by arcadia to the effect that when a student graded a professor below a certain minimum number such as 2 he would have to fill out an additional form stating his reas ons for doing so with constructive criticism added although the in dividual will be requested to put his name on the form that has the numbers grading on it in order to epitome needs staff members brown and white in the
