the brown and white lehigh university's student newspaper founded in 1894 all the lehigh news first vol 107 no 24 friday january 28 2000 ron ticho bids farewell to lehigh in february former student and long-time lehigh employee takes head role of marketing for new start-up company by gina montana assistant news editor in late december ron ticho 85 assistant vice president for university relations announced he will be leaving lehigh to take a position as principal of zero to sive a new marketing and com munications start-up company the company focuses on consulting new and infant technology companies in branding and positioning ticho's chief responsibilities will include the development of communication and branding strategies and acting as head con sultant to companies in a marketing atmos phere and senior account management since his introduction into the lehigh family as a freshman in 1981 ticho has stayed with the university as an undergrad uate and graduate student adjunct lecturer and employee at many different positions ron has been an effective valued and creative partner in moving lehigh for ward president gregory farrington said ticho said that he looked forward to working at lehigh everyday my motivation and energy has come from the people i work with everyday in a team effort " he said ticho's vivacity and passion for lehigh and his work positively effected his work ing environment and fellow colleagues ron ticho always has the best inter ests of lehigh at heart in eveiything he does rita malone-sorensen director of university communications said marvin simmons creative director of the design group said ticho was helpful with his different views and his desire to learn bill johnson director of external relations remembers ticho promoting lehigh both as a student working for the sports information department and fol lowing graduation when he contributed to the alumni association and athletics he leaves a university relations department that is poised to reach the next level in positioning lehigh as one of the top medium-sized universities in the nation johnson said during ticho's tenure at lehigh his contributions included completing a for tuitous 300 million fund-raising cam paign achieving record breaking num bers in undergraduate applications and advancing the endeavor to establish a market-based web site prior to his position as assistant vice president for university relations ticho was associate director of athletics where he orga nized marketing and imaging strate gies his background as a sports editor for the brown and white comple mented his interests in athletics and helped him learn how to grow and take advantage of new opportunities ron is truly a son of lehigh farrington said as a highly active and respected member of the lehigh family ticho said that lehigh's future is poised by farrington for great success with its greatest assets as the people ticho said his greatest memory expe rienced at lehigh in the past nineteen years was not when he was on the same basketball court as patrick ewing when he played for georgetown nor when he was awarded the alfred noble robinson award for his achievement in service to the university but when he first saw his future wife also a lehigh graduate while sitting at a lehigh basketball game as ticho's departure date of feb 1 nears he expressed the hardships of leaving his colleagues and the lehigh people a result of the most difficult decision i have made in my profes sional career i leave with as much passion for lehigh as when i came ticho said however ticho said his energy and ambition allows him to be eager to spread my entrepreneurial wings and get involved with an organization at this early stage ticho expressed a lesson he sorority rush by bevin milavsky news editor this week marks the time of year when freshmen sophomore and junior women explore the greek system during sorority rush during the week-long program the women visit the eight houses meet the sisters and decide if sorority life is an option they want to pursue this year's events began on monday and will conclude with bid day next tuesday the schedule was pushed back a day due to the snow day the week's events begin with open house which covers the first two nights of rush the women visit each house once to get acquainted with each sorority the day following open house the women find out which houses have invited them back if they are invit ed back to every house they must cut two because they are only permitted to return to six or fewer hous es in round two some of the freshman rushees expressed their enthusiasm and reasons for rushing it's a big part of our school life elizabeth mcdermott 03 said greek life is really big here rachel meshonek 03 focused on the social aspect of the process it's a good chance to meet new people she said round two used to consist of a slide show but this year something different has been added the two nights follow ing open house are now referred to as philanthropy nights the women work on an arts and crafts project at each of the houses they visit the projects will be related to valentine's
