and food thursday night in the ulrich student center students listened and danced to the mel low and soulful sounds of jah works a reg gae band from baltimore the event was designed to emphasize that alcohol-free activities and fun can go together the first 50 attendees received free t-shirts displaying the theme of alcohol awareness week put the writing on the wall michelle witkowski a residential life coordinator who helped set up the entertain ment said the night was a success the event was basically to show that there is an alternative to drinking she see creativity page 9 we are engineering and applied sciences was the moderator for the event among the speakers were richard gurin president and ceo of binney and smith inc robert teufel president of rodale press inc and shuzaburo takeda executive director of the business and university forum in japan gurin began his speech by revealing his business strategies for his most successful products the crayola line i hope to share some of our strategies that actually work gurin said representatives from japan canada and the united states discuss creativity in business world global leaders meet for two days at the zoellner arts center business leaders came together under the flags of the united states canada and japan to discuss creativity in today's global economy the first session of the conference held thursday covered organizational strategies mass customization and financing issues in separate sessions spaced throughout the day the next day leaders discussed innovation entrepreneurial spirit human resources and educational issues william c hittinger 44 interim presi dent welcomed everyone to the conference and described it as an extraordinary event joseph perella managing director for morgan stanley and co inc introduced the event see nobooza page 9 said you don't always have to have alcohol to have fun ginger deßias wellness program coordinator who also organized the event explained the purpose of the night we're trying to raise student awareness of the dangers of irresponsible drinking she said we want students to develop healthier lifestyles but also have fun lollanobooza is an robinson 98 grill food at the warren square block party saturday many students attended the first-time event despite the rain the gryphon in the house emerito medalla 00 explained the living group's beginning the house began as an inter est group that was formed last year he said this year we were given a house right now the house is not a well-structured organization he said so we are trying to make it a more permanent structure medalla said the idea for hav ing a mocktails table blossomed from collaborative thinking we brainstormed and the idea grew from there medalla said our goal is to live substance free lehigh's rotc which brought its humvee to the party sponsored a hand-grenade toss the game was an actual drill used by the rotc contestants tossed grenades at plastic minia ture soldiers resting on a small pole and set up in a bunker area complete with a blue tarp participants knelt and had two chances to land a grenade in the bunker area winners took home water bottles commemo rating the day among the day's highlights inclement weather may have kept some students away from warren square's block party saturday but not its residents who endured the chilling drizzle by warming up to each other the party the first for warren square offered a variety of enter tainment two bands played and there was a hand-grenade toss and go-cart races nonsense 99 a band whose members live in the creative arts house performed first for the crowd they played some original music in addition to cover songs including one by the mighty mighty bosstones the band's drummer bryan fulmore 99 described its music as punk rock the band has also played at fraternities the stage door and at other colleges the party served up a variety of food and drink as well the wellness house offered
