all you students who are going to be in or around the metropoli tant area should make your res ervations as soon as possible frank daley's renowned mea dowbrook is located on the pomp ton turnpike in cedar grove n j the music for the festivities will be provided by tony pastor and his orchestra tony and his band are well known for provid ing all around entertainment as yet the number of students is far from that desired those wishing to make reservations for dec 27 should get in touch with mert cohen of tau delta phi 7-3551 before leaving for their christmas vacation if they aren't able to do this they should make their reservation directly with the meadowbrook reservations should be made by dec 23 at the latest lehigh night will present an opportunity for the students to get together during the christmas va cation for a grand evening of en tertainment the goings on will be broadcast over a national hook up and will give the school a good buildup dec 27 and lehigh night at frank daley's meadowbrook is fast approaching lehigh night to feature tony pastor and band meadowbrook affair sparks xmas vacation tone members pick mininberg as president graber vice-president larky made treasurer tone the honorary music appreciation society founded in 1937 and in a rather dormant state during the war due to lack of stu dents and lack of time during the accelerated program has made a move to recover its former posi tion on the lehigh campus by holding a re-organization meeting on wednesday dec 12 at elec tions which were held bruce mininberg was elected president of the society ralph graber became vice-president and norbert larky was given the duo-positioll of sec retary-treasurer other old mem bers of the club present were richard macadams malcolm schvey and al farans ed heisler aly sherbeeny b h hazlehurst rudy shubert and jay slemmer were formally initiated by harry kern former president who pre sided at the meeting these members will for their formal initiation give a concert at the next meeting these concerts have replaced the former compositions required for entrance into tone it has been the custom of tone to present each year a series of concerts by outside artists and to make several trips to the metro politan opera concerts by the philadelphia symphony orches tra or other musical perform ances the members hope to re sume these activities as soon as possible frosh release coming jan 12 freshmen regulations will con tinue to be in effect until january 12 1946 the members of cyanide decided last wednesday evening at drown hall during their latest meeting the regulations will be more rigidly enforced than they were before a new group of vigi lanttes have been appointed and they will soon swing into action to curb all freshmen violators at the meeting last wednesday it was also decided to have a court give trials to those boys caught not observing freshmen regulations the court will be held on the 15 of january at which time all sentences will be passed upon the rule breakers sports dance fetes lehigh athletes last friday night lehigh paid tribute to her athletes with a sports - appreciation dance held from nine to twelve o'clock in grace hall music for the occasion was furnished by the collegians under the direction of bob jones during the intermission leo prendergast presented the varsity letter-winners of the summer baseball team and the football team their l's the nineteen members of the football team who received letters are james arthur robert burslem david dean newton frishberg albert granese william gasdaska charles hoff man richard jones robert ka chel clarence pearsall walter potosky herbert seeger fred storch donald tarbell joseph tropp albert wlson spencer wright samuel pell and robert kassler manager then billy sheridan presented l's to fourteen brown and white soccer players these letters went to nester blan co earl compton alfred dinon huger hazlehurst george harris c h johnson albert kuentz richard manz arthur partrick victor pineda andrew rote rob ert weltz joseph kricks and ar thur ross jr manager considering that it was held during the week the dance was fairly well attended with nearly a hundred persons present joe kinney plays host to brown & white staff last wednesday at six o'clock the staff of the brown and white held its annual ban quet at kinney's grill almost the entire staff of brown and white turned out so that there were about thirty persons present professor al bert rights was there just as the dinner started but unfor tunately he was unable to stay the party broke up very early by seven o'clock but even though the gathering was short a feeling of good fellow ship prevailed through the pro ceedings the dinner which has been traditional for a number of years serves as a get together for all those men working on the brown and white in what ever department they are five students are selected for who's who lehigh seniors gain distinction five lehigh university seniors have been selected for appearance in the annual publication who's who among students in amer ican universities and colleges those honored for their scholastic and extra - curricular activities are willard buothby allen goodman richard macadams melvin ramberg and don shettel willard s boothby i e feb 46 transferred from cornell uni versity of engineering after a year there upon his return from eight een months duty with the army ordnance corps besides keeping in the upper third of his class bill has been a leader in extra-cur ricular activities including presi dent of odk cyanide arcadia chairman of the five-man com mittee allen j goodman bus j 46 has been very active in campus activities goodman has contri buted much to lehigh as president and business manager of the mustard and cheese president of phi lambda phi intercollegiate debating financial manager of the brown and white secretary of if and other extra-curricular positions richard a macadams m e j'4t is well-qualified for repre sentation in who's who dick has acted as chairman of the five man committee on classes pres ident of cyanide editor 1946 epi tome vice-president arcadia brown and white treasurer and many other positions dick has also acted as master of ceremon ies at student pep rallies melvin e ramberg m e f'46 has acted as president if council president american society of me chanical engineers art editor 1946 epitome member of arcadia stu dent morale committee scl com mittee mustard and cheese vice continued on page 6 engineers meeting feature atom talk at the second technical meeting of the lehigh valley engineers club in packard laboratory audi torium last tuesday night william e davidson bell telephone dis trict manager of lehigh valley gave an illustrated lecture on atomic energy mr davidson said that techni cal men must consider it their re sponsibility to convert atomic en ergy to constructive peacetime uses the speaker traced man's knowledge of the atom back to the ancient greeks who first came to the conclusion that all matter is composed of minute par ticles and he outlined the devel opment of atomic investigation up to the present day mr davidson pointed out that his information was not conclusive as he was not a member of the manhattan pro ject mr davidson attended the massachusetts institute of tech nology where he received his b s and master's degrees he was a transmission engineer for eight years with the bell telephone company and specialized in elec tronic problems glee clubbers sing carols the lehigh university glee club in conjunction with the moravian college for women pre sented its annual christmas carol service on sunday dec 16 at 4 p.m in packer memorial chapel the glee clubs of both schools performed admirably as did miss judy rawlings who was the solo ist of the service during the pro cessional and recessional the chapel was completely dark ex cept for the beautifully lighted christmas tree on the altar and the lighted candles carried by each member of the choirs the program was as follows organ prelude — pastorale sym phony by handel processional hymn — o come o come emmanuel a greetting by vice president e kenneth smiley chorus — a heavenly song ar ranged by dickenson a prayer delivered by dr beardslee carol the first noel the prophecies isaiah xl given by dr beards lee solo come unto him by handel sung by miss judy rawl ings the christmas story luke ii 1-7 carol silent night chorus — while shepherds watch ed their flocks carol — it came upon the midnight clear chor us — angels o'er the fields ar ranged by dickenson carol — o little town of bethlehem car ol — ye who have vain fears story of the wisemen matt 2 1-6 ; chorale — not jerusalem chorus — jesu thou babe divine carol — we three kings nunc dimittis the benediction reces sional hymn — o come all ye faithful brown and white lehigh university bethlehem pa wednesday december 19 1945 dick macadams don shettel vol liii — no 9 al goodman bui boothby mcl ramberg price 5 cents come on swimmers . • • give us a lift • « • the past weekend saw the lehigh swimming team go down to de feat to princeton a defeat due more to lack of men and lack of spirit than lack of ability the team made the trip to princeton with seven men less than half of the number required for a full team a call is being put out for swimmers of all types freestyle breast stroke and divers most urgently needed are distance men and back strokers but men are needed in all events to round the team out there will be five more meets this season and almost a month's lapse between now and the next meet and any men who are interested in joining the team are urgently requested to call fax landstreet 7-4771 or dick mesirov 6-6262 or come to the pool any after noon between four and six
