tournaments discussed — cups to be awarded bowling schedule near completion preliminary bouts this afternoon and tonight semi-finals and finals tomorrow about 100 men report at first call the first cut in squad is made semi-finals completed phi delta theta kappa sigma and sigma chi remain good new material oui appearance of coach on upper field gives added spirit to work of squad fenn state looms strong loss of johnson mathag and wil son felt herrington again out for catcher capt bertolet expected to bring home honors — hopes for loeser and myers the lacrosse season started into full swing on tuesday with the ap pearance of coach w t o'neill on the field and the squad has start ed in the battle for positions the preliminary work-outs of the squad during the past few weeks has put the men in fairly good condition and regular practice is to be held duily on the upper field instruc tion in stick-handling passing and goal shooting is being taken up each day winding up with a short scrim mage with seven letter men back on the squad namely captain maurer jentness schultz emslin wilson and parker there is a good nucleus for another winning team thirty five other men have reported many of whom are of last year's squad and muzdakis 23 and kutzleb/23 who were members of the balti more polytechnic institute team last year the following men have reported to manager g childs for the assist ant-manager competition opdyke beach webb blankembueller pass more stanton focht and hicks junior class meet the interfraternity council meet ing last monday night cleared up the questionable points in the bas ketball and pool tournaments the same time limits shall hold for both schedules the lower gym floor can be procured for fraternity games any afternoon from now on and it is not unreasonable to expect that several games could be played in an afternoon if due arrangements were made in connection with the pool tour nament the stirling billiard acade my 74 west broad street has of fered access to their tables free of charge for any regular matches on the interfraternity " schedule any teams wishing to play games on these tables may do so by calling bell 1355r at least a half hour be fore the game so that accommoda tions may be made any afternoon except saturday before 6 p m the management has taken this op portunity of introducing to lehigh students an excellently equipped pool room and of providing a neu tral atmosphere for the coining matches the subject of trophies for all the sports taken up so far this year was discussed and it has been de cided to award cups of a circulating nature — that they must be won for a specified number of years by one group before it becomes the abso lute property of the winner penn intercollegiate soccer league meets tomorrow night the band will stage its first dance of the season at drown hall the students are not buying the tickets as fast as they might yet it is expected that when the time comes they will come across the success or failure of the project depends on the student body for it is not expected that many of the town folks will attend it is to be run as a regular col lege dance except that the band will have the entire operation in their hands there has been some mis givings about this on the part of some of the students but it can be assured that they will be entirely satisfied the men have worked hard and long in preparation for this and having an able leader as they do there is no reason whatever why the people should not be en tirely satisfied the band is an organization en tirely different from any other in college for they have no seasons in which to appear it is all during the year on account of this it has been thought well to offer some small inducement to get men for as the case now stands the whole thing is unstable so in the near future the band is to have a banquet which will here after be a yearly affair the proceeds of the dance to help defray ex penses with this object in view ii is hoped that the whole-hearted support of the student body will be received for it is only one more step to miake a real something of the l u band morris kanaly meets track competitors a meeting of the junior class was held wednesday noon on the first floor packer hall several im portant matters were brought be fore the meeting and disposed of the date of the class banquet was set for friday evening april 8 at the kurtz restaurant a b war ren is chairman of the committee on arrangements the ' date of the junior prom was set for april 28th it was urged that all members of the class do all in their power to make this affair a success the question of the inter-class track meet to be held on april 16th was also brought up it was urged that as many men as possible get out and try for the team the class last year carried off the hon ors and wishes to duplicate the trick again this year f e bailey was appointed to get the team together tennis call the two last semi-final matches of the inter fraternity bowling league were finished on monday and tuesday and the three teams are now ready for the finals the three successful teams who will take part in the final matches are phi delta theta kappa sigma and sigma chi kappa sigma entered the finals by winning from theta xi and sigma chi reached this hon or by easily winning from chi psi the three remaining matches are looked forward to with a great deal of interest because the three teams that are taking part are about on a par the phi delts lead with a high score of 679 but the next eight places for team high scores are divided about evenly between the three teams each team has one man among the high individual scorers sigma chi stands first with carlisle rolling 213 but straub phi delta theta has taken several places with good scores standing second with 211 and far ther down with 201 vogeley is kappa sig's highest man with a mark of 197 in order that some knowledge i mey be had of the standing oi the i different teams as to high scores the following ranking of the first high scores is given phi delta theta 679 kappa sigma 663 sigma chi 663 sigma cbi . 654 kappa sigma 654 phi delta theta 646 phi delta theta 643 sigma chi 639 sigma chi 636 psi upsilon 630 the following is the standing of the individual scorers up to and ii eluding the semi-finals : carlisle sigma chi sigma ... 197 fay delta upsilon 192 stainer sigma nu 192 sigma chi wins again on monday afternoon the sigma chi bowling team easily defeated the chi psi bowlers at kurtz's by the scores of 639-484 and 663-569 the sigma chi team was playing up to its usual form and there was no doubt of the victory from the start there was no high individual scor ing but the whole team seemed to bowl with a very good average the best work was done by capt rath bone who bowled 180 and 190 dur continued on page four after the warm weather of the past week baseball practice has been going forward rapidly getting into shape a squad of about 100 men re ported at the first practice last week and this week the first cut reduced the number to about 35 another cut later will probably be made to get the squad down to vvorking size the diamond has about dried up and practice has been going on there for several days about all that is being done so far is batting prac tice and the pitchers are working oat the kinks in their arms the prospects this year are for a team nearly up to the average of last year's the graduation of mat bag and johnson and wilson leav ing school left several big gaps to be filled to occupy the vacant po sitions coach keady has the squad of last year and some fairly good new material to select from fortunately the infield of last year is intact savaria donovan rote and yap being available for infield duty with these men for a starter and with several new men out a strong infield should result among the most promising of the squad out are allen simpson rog ers boynton piersal reefe carey and bryan for the outfield several men from last year's team are available the absence of matbag who was proba bly the best outfielder in collegiate ranks last year will of course intercollegiate soccer league was held friday evening march 11 at the university of pennsylvania houston hall at this meeting were gathered the rep resentatives of the five colleges and universities which at present com prise the membership these were namely : pennsylvania haverford swarthmore lafayette and lehigh swarthmore was declared cham pions of the league for the season just past and was awarded the cup and banner that form the material award of this title it will be re membered that lehigh was runner up for the title this year and so took second a schedule was drawn up for the coming season and lehigh's games that have been scheduled for 1921 1922 are as follows : nov 5th — haverford at haver ford nov 12 opa dec 3rd swarthmore at lehigh dec 10th open besides these league games there is pending games with the army perm state and rutgers dec 14th — lafayette at lehigh officers of the league were elect ed for ensuing year and were as follows — rhoades pennsylvania as president sellers swarthmore as vice-president ; taylor haver ford as secretary and treasurer douglas stewart head coach of soccer at pennsylvania university was also present and as a founder of the league was made honorary president the results of the elections of soccer are brewer captain roth manager elected by athletic com ; asbury and graham as sistant managers the first call for candidates for the tennis team has been made for this afternoon at 4:15 at the gym all men who have any ability along this line of sport or who would like to become more proficient in the art should report at the first call there are three veterans left from last year — hall beck and lawton — who will form a nucleus for this season's team a large number of men are urged to report to manager smith a call for candidates for assist ant manager has also been made last monday afternoon coach kanaly addressed the candidates for this year's track team and out lined his plans for the coming year laying particular stress upon the necessity of any kind of training to be exacted he also spoke of the various meets to be held the first of which will be the inter class meet on april 16th the schedule as arranged is a very good one and lehigh's men have their work cut out for them this branch of athletics at le high has been progressing very nicely and rapidly under coach kamaly's supervision and it is hoped and expected that more freshmen take advantage of this opportunity to do something to get in college many more freshmen should turn out as there surely must be good material in the class of 24 at the same time this meeting was called a call for assistant man agers was given and only four men responded these men are israel ferguson farkas and peterson more candidates for this position are needed and they should report at once the wrestling team left last night tor princeton where the 1921 inter collegiate wrestling meet will be held this afternoon and tomorrow the team accompanied by coach sheridani manager alden and as sistant manager saltzman re mained at philadelphia last night and arrived at princton in time for the weighing in which took place at 11 o'clock this morning the preliminary bouts will be staged this afternoon and tonight and the semi finals and finals tomorrow after noon seven colleges will fight for the championship laurels this year they are : perm state yale penn sylvania cornell columbia prince ton and lehigh the perm state teoim winners of the title last year seem to be heading straight for the sane honor this year for their rec ord against the teams which will oppose them today and tomorrow is ciear of defeats with the excep tion of the navy which team is not entered in the interco'llegiates this season penini state defeated every team they have come up against cornell and lehigh are probably the best teams after state lehigh has won from west virginia perm columbia and springfield while they have lost to brown cornell and perm state cornell defeated lehigh brown columbia and brooklyn poly losing to perm and perm state included among perm's victories have been cornell colum bia west virginia and princeton having been defeated by lehigh and the navy from this resume it is evident that wrestling records have been pretty inconsistent this year and the intercollegiates will be largely a matter of stamina and fight am of the teams except state who has a slight edge are well matched and the meets today and saturday will be keenly con tested the lehigh representatives who vill go to the mat for intercollegiate honors are schwarzbach myers gihons capt bertolet loeser roy and carlisle of these captain bertolet is lehigh's best bet he has not lost a bout this year and re membering that he won from the state 145-poumder
