o'shaughnessy feels the bike patrol is a valuable asset to lehigh i felt it was a good move by the university because when the police cars drive around the hill it is some times tough to get their permanent sorority resi ts to be built on the hill 6 we need more options for students who live on campus and aren't members of greek organizations kendra hearon 96 jtie report states we suggest sororities be the first to move • the hill because it will be the st way to lessen lehigh's lin ng reputation as a male-domi nated university building these houses would also allow room m upper centennials for underclass residential housing since no frater nity house can hold the number of current members m a sorority these two houses can be built to occupy the size of a sorority the senate's report also asked that occupancy rules be applied to all types of residential living the report said that live-in advisers should only be m greek houses that have demonstrated a need for supervision by break ing university regulations sen ate instead suggests alumni fac ulty and chapter advisers play a more significant role m advising greek organizations the senate s report proposes that feel will better the residential envi ronment at lehigh according to the senate s report there are several recommended changes to the board of trustee's original report the senate's first recom mendation is to lower the pro posed fraternity 90 percent oc cupancy standard to 85 per cent they also propose that the 85 percent should not be a stand alone initiative senate proposed that frater nity and sorority members who go abroad should be counted m their house's total they also suggested that greek organiza tions who score high m the pride evaluation should be able to keep their house even if they fall below 85 percent occupancy and to allow fraternities three out of five semes the student senate's residential environment proposal was passed by the full senate at the nov 9 meeting and was submitted to the board of trustees last week the proposal was written by a senate ad-hoc committee commit tee chairman brad unger ' 97 said the senate had made every effort to con sider all students opinions before de ciding on their recommendations we held four town meetings to solicit comments and inform stu dents about the residential environ ment report he said we tried to represent past week two lehigh students were robbed on separate incidences by non-students according to john smeaton assistant vice presi dent for student affairs on sunday at approximately 1 a.m a male student while walking on summit street near montclair avenue was approached by two black youths they asked the student for a cigarette and he said he did not have one as he walked away the suspects followed him according to smeaton and a police report one suspect stood m front of the student and pressed something hard against his chest the other suspect stood behind the student grabbed his wallet and took a number of personal items including his student id a mac card and several dollars m cash the student was not harmed and said he did not see if it was a weapon against his chest the student described the suspects as approxi mately 17 years old with short hair cuts one is about 5 feet 7 inches tall 160 pounds and the please see robbery page 6 other is about 5 feet 10 inches tall weighing 170 pounds on monday at approximately 10:30 p.m an other male student while walking on packer avenue m front of christmas-saucon hall was approached by three black youths from be hind according to smeaton one suspect pressed what the student believed to be a weapon against the student's neck and the other sus pect asked for his wal let the student gave them his wallet and the suspects fled the student was also unharmed one suspect was described by the student as being 5 feet 10 inches tall with short cropped hair all three of the suspects the student said were m their late teens smeaton said bethlehem and lehigh police met tuesday and decided to put additional patrol cars and bicycles from the police departments around campus in the meantime smeaton advised students to also take extra safety precautions we encourage students to avoid walking alone and to walk with a friend or with a group of people smeaton said we shouldn t have to feel this way but m some re spects we have to we do not mean to alarm people but we want them to be informed he said we need to main tain the battle between be ing paranoid and having a healthy level of awareness smeaton also advised students to take advan tage of the tr acs escort service and the walking escort service which are available from dusk to dawn he also asked that students do not abuse the tracs service and use it only for
