whose presentation was titled extraterres trial materials - a key to the order of the solar system goldstein helped initiate the le high chapter of alpha sigma mv and is a former president of the society alpha sigma mv is one of the only few honor societies with only one responsibility goldstein said you are expected to carry through with what you are doing continue your excellence m education you are the best and the brightest future stars m this field kauffman said induction to the honor society is quite rewarding within the field of materials sci ence and engineering alpha sigma mv is nationally recognized it's something i would be proud of kauffman said klug agreed even being nomi nated for induction is an honor you are being recognized by your peers by annabel lukins news writer bethlehem neighborhood center for an easter party boys and girls aged 6-13 joined frater nity brothers m a festive easter celebration events included coloring eggs an easter egg hunt dinner and a special appearence by the easter bunny it is a rewarding feeling that less fortunate children of beth lehem get to participate m these activities anand shukla 95 said i also feel that most children have a sense of vibrancy which people our age tend to lack it was good to get that child-like feeling again there were others at the party who felt the event was a success they shared their easter stuff with us and gave us food said 11 year-old crystal matos from the dunagan school m bethlehem i even got my friends to come i want to say thank you to all of them this place is pretty big and i and rebuttals the floor was open to questions from the audience student reaction to the event was mixed i thought the event was a good idea doug rohrer 97 said it's an important issue unfortunately none of the speakers really dealt with it both seemed to be more worried about semantics and making themselves look good than actually delve into the issue and say why it should be changed than any qualification wurth said on the other side amidon argued that affirmative action was not needed because of the effect of the market system he cited ex amples of groups that were previously dis criminated against are now playing a signifi cant role m the marketplace amidon attacked the ideas m affirmative action programs as social engineering cit ing syndicated columnist and economist tho mas sowell amidon listed examples of other nations that engaged m strong affirmative ac tion programs with disastrous consequences amidon also disagreed with ideas that cor porations pick chief executive officers based on gender and race tions is necessary m an american society troubled by discrimination wurth said current indicators used by in dustry and academia to determine an individual's potential do not take into full account that person's abilities using the model of college admissions wurth said that while a student may or may not meet the numerical standards set by a college admissions office this does not indicate how that individual will perform and contribute to college having an undergraduate body that best reflects the social makeup of the nation per formed better than one that did not wurth said representation is worth more for social good the effectiveness of affirmative action pro grams was the topic of a debate titled affir mative action reform debate re-examining america's commitment to minority citizens tuesday m the kenner theater of the ulrich student center david amidon director of the urban stud ies program spoke against affirmative action while albert wurth associate professor of government took the position for the program wurth who opened the debate argued that affirmative action which gives minorities pref erence m hiring and
