campus bar is that it would offer alternatives to the social scene at lehigh he is convinced that students will re spond enthusiastically to this idea there is a growing need on this campus for a place to hang out at night especially for those juniors and seniors who are 21 and older chick said i would really like to see this on-campus bar idea work the senate is always trying to find fun alternatives to a fraternity party or the local bars the main problem right now for the sen ate is that the zoellner arts center will not be completed until 1997 please see bar page 6 if renovations for lamberton begin m a few years the implementation of the on campus bar will take a long time to com plete chick said chick said the senate suggested making pete's arena a pub until lamberton is ready to open the situation would be temporary the food served at pete's arena pres ently would not change chick said because the bar would most likely be open only two nights a week friday and saturday also the bar would be a separate part of the eating establishment renovations of pete's arena ter and the zoellner arts center there will be room for a bar for students lamberton hall will be vacant after the zoellner arts center is built and it is the perfect spot for an on-campus pub chick said chick described the logistics of the pro posed idea including student involvement and the details of construction in lamberton we would hopejfully have a coffee house and a deli along with the bar facilities chick said " i would also like to see lehigh's radio station wlvr moved there as well we could the use student djs for the music the student senate has discussed the idea for a campus-run bar for the past few years but no serious action has been taken until now kevin chick 95 senate president said senate has formed a committee to address the issue and is now starting to work on a proposal this semester the idea includes a bar and lounge area to be put m lamberton hall lehigh students arc work ing with the star program is designed to help local middle and high school students do well academically for some of those students who may not be doing well academi cally this is a program designed lo address that odi said odi said some faculty members are also actively involved m the star program which is held ev ery other saturday from november lo may the faculty members provide hands-on demonstrations m which the kids get involved for example we have faculty members m the college of business who do seminars and workshops involving the kids m small busi ness development as well as cntre prencurship odi said the banquet was to bring all that together and say to these fac ulty and staff members who were selected thai here is an example of a program that has been successful for the past several years and is partly due to the involvement of lehigh undergraduate and gradu the students that are ready program held a banquet thursday to honor its undergraduate and graduate tutors who have assisted local middle and high school stu dents with their studies henry odi assistant to the pro vost for special programs said this is the second year that such a ban quet has been held for the people who have given such a large contri bution to the success of the star program odi said he asked the tutors to select their favorite faculty or staff member to come to dinner it was a way of inviting the faculty members who were nomi nated to get a chance to hear about the activities that these students are involved m outside the class room odi said we had the re ception and it gave the tutor-men tors and faculty an opportunity lo interact odi said the academic deans as well as the provost and president were also m attendance he also invited some of the middle
