it all night although the brothers were dis appointed they could not accommo date all their visitors they thought the event was a success romo said de spite the crowd problem the event's two monthsof planning were worth it every brother is absolutely pleased with the success nobody ex pected it to be this good romo said co-organizer bill jelen 96 agreed it proves what young people can do what they have the potential to do when they put all of their efforts together jelen said patrons were asked to place a 2 donation at the door for ucp founda tion according to dix over 800 was raised he pointed out this was a more than 450 local residents waited for as long as an hour to take a tour of the first pi kappa alpha fraternity haunted house to benefit united cerebral palsey foundation of the lehigh valley on saturday visitors traveled from as far away as allentown to walk through the decorated fraternity house which was transformed into the count of foun tain hill's castle for the evening the large community turnout was a pleasant surprise for the brothers it was a 100 percent success amazing we didn't expect so many people chris romo 96 pike pub lic relations chairman and co-orga nizer of the haunted house said the event was scheduled from 3 p.m to 9 p.m but pike was forced to stop selling tickets at 7:30 p.m due to the length of the wait according to delta gamma dives into olsen 96 of phi delta theta fraternity it s a good cause mantagnino said i'm really glad i could par ticipate we all shared the responsi bilities of hanging up signs coach ing teams and getting the fraterni ties and sororities involved we raised a lot of money i'm not surprised at the turnout it's neat to see people get involved in a good cause she said i wanted to include them be cause nationally they are included i also wanted to improve relations among sororities they help us and we help them meza said the goal for this year's anchor splash was to beat $ 1 500 the amount raised last year money was raised through anchor splash t-shirts sold at the door and throughout the week in the university center tickets at the door a 50 entrance fee for each house to participate and a mr and ms beautiful eyes contest the mr and ms beautiful eyes contest was changed from the mr anchor splash contest held last year i felt focusing on eyes instead of the body would raise awareness for our philanthropy for the blind meza rubber ducks speedos and beau tiful eyes were all part of delta gamma sorority's 1 lth annual an chor splash held sunday at jacobs pool in taylor gym the anchor splash raises funds for dg's national philanthropy aid to the blind this year at lehigh it included five different competitions among the five sororities and 19 fra ternities that participated this is the first year the event was opened to sororities jennifer meza 96 is dg's foundation chairwoman and chairwoman of anchor splash and wanted to open the event to the other greek women on campus the history department also co-chaired the search committee the committee is very pleased with the appointment of rhonda gross as vice president he said she brings a unique combination of strengths to the position she will continue the tradition of strong financial leadership at le high simon said gross is a graduate of washington univer sity in st louis and earned a mba from northwestern university a member of both the american and pennsylvania institutes of certified public accountants she is married to glen gross vice president of wimco metals in wilkinsburg pa they currently reside in fox chapel a suburb of pittsburgh and are the parents of a daughter amy who attends the university of pennsylvania the office of media relations contributed to this article formerly worked as a senior accountant for ernst and ernst now ernst and young in chicago and pittsburgh i am elated to become a member of the management team at a university as prestigious and well-respected as lehigh gross said my family and i are looking forward to be coming active participants in the lehigh val ley community trustee karen stuckey a partner in price waterhouse's new york office and co-chair of the vice presidential search committee said the university faces a formidable set of chal lenges in the next few years in implementing the lehigh plan rhonda is extremely capable of meeting the challenges to help move lehigh forward she has a broad base of experience in meeting a wide range of issues and was the unanimous choice of the search committee as the best candidate stuckey said vice president of finance and adminis tration john w woltjen has decided to re tire but president peter likins announced he will be succeeded by rhonda i gross effective in early 1995 woltjen after 15 years of service will take the special retirement option of the lehigh plan his replacement gross currently serves as vice president for finance and treasurer of the university of pittsburgh trust she has demonstrated at pitt her capacity to deal with complex issues requiring both a keen mind and a stout heart likins said she's proven herself to be a team player and will be comfortable in the lehigh environ ment
