lehigh cafe on saturday night the lights were dimmed and candles burned on every table cof fee lemonade and snacks were pro vided bear sebastian 96 a resident of the creative arts house and the evening's chief master of ceremo nies captured the atino sphere and excitement in his opening lines this is a sweet buzz sebastian said the cafe was packed and when there were no more seats people sat on window ledges and many opted for the floor the show's first performers were chris ware 95 and chris burgess 96 burgess played guitar while ware sang don mclean's ameri can pie it was a song audience members knew and almost every one sang along burgess only had positive feel ings about open mic night after his performance please see open mic page 6 i think it's a great chance for people to express themselves bur gess said katie harrison 96 has been to other open mic nights and is im pressed with the amount of artist icly talented people at lehigh she went to open mic night last year and resolved not to miss another there are a lot of closet artists at lehigh and it takes something like this to show their talent harrison said throughout the night there were many unusual acts from a french horn and keyboard duo to the over tones who are a mixed faculty and student choir group the majority of performers presented guitar and vo cal acts there was also an occa sional poetry reading marc lawson 95 gryphon of the creative arts house feels that this event provides a great alternative to parties and other events at lehigh people who don't think there are enough options at lehigh aren't looking hard enough lawson said many participants feel open mic night does the difficult task of pro after a week of being off the air to renovate the studio and secure the station's equipment wlvr returned to the airwaves thursday with an updated studio image and motto the new motto art fortheears is being promoted to give the station the publicity which it has lacked in the past the wlvr staff hopes to give the station more credibility and gain more listeners in the process thomas wolfe 94 wlvrprogram director feels it is time to make a concerted effort to get more public ity we want to get people's atten tion the public haven't been com ing to us so we are going to come to them wolfe said among the physical changes are a newly carpeted floor two compact disc players headphones and an al phabetized system for organizing the compact discs and records there are also new anti-theft poli cies which include bolting down the compact disc players to avoid thefts which resulted in the loss of two compact disc players and large num bers of compact discs this year the inventory system where the discjock eys have to log in what they play and when has also undergone some sig nificant changes it is stricter and more detailed than before which forces the members of the wlvr staff to be more careful in their ac countability for equipment janaparadiso 95 sunday morn football games bethlehem police have decided not to become directly involved with security at the game this year ac cording to lehigh police chief eu gene dax there will be only a few bethlehem police officers present at the game and their role will be as observers i think it makes more sense to not to have a concentration of a lot of police at the game dax said hope fully this is going to work which i'm as this weekend's lehigh lafayette football game approaches lehigh police and the athletic depart ments and presidents from lehigh and lafayette college are trying to curb the misconduct that has marred past matches between the two foes notices were sent to all student mailboxes by both lehigh president peter likins and lafayette president arthur rothkopf informing the stu dents of expected behavior and the penalties for misconduct at the game saturday members of the administration have been meeting with the greek houses to express their concern about the game and to tell the greeks what will be expected of them with the administration trying to dissuade the students from any mis behavior and with the cost of tickets being used to keep troublemakers away lehigh police are also prepar ing for the game lehigh police have employed 80 additional personnel to aid the 12 lehigh security guards and 14 cam pus police officers at the game the additional security will be
