fairchild-martindale library jose serrano 95 said the international bazaar raises people s awareness of differ ent ethnic groups and cultures this is a great opportunity for people to get to know other cultures and customs said serrano who is from puerto rico and is president of the student alliance of latinos and south americans camille mckayle a graduate student in the mathematics department said the in ternational bazaar is a nice addition to lehigh s social calender there are many international students present mckayle said i wish there were morestudentsofthegeneralpopulationhere the bazaar began at lehigh approxi mately 1 1 years ago sponsored by interna tional student organizations the annual event is generally held in maginnes hall gisela nansteel immigration coordi nator for international students said lehigh's large international population has enabled the international bazaar to last over the years it has changed in its form but it has been always around in some way she said i think we have such a large interna tional community that we should make more use of its wealth of knowledge participants of the event included stu dent organizations such as the chinese the wailers recently played at the apollo in new york city with andrew tosh and black uhuru elias said there were some complaints about the event from spec tators regarding the hour delay from the scheduled 2 p.m start time and the size of the crowd ray ruhf a resident of bethlehem wondered why radio stations didn't advertise the event more he also felt that there should be more in way of concessions and wondered why the fraternities didn't set up anything such as a grill ruhf did enjoy the show though it was a very good concert i like the way the wailers mixed rock reggae and funk he said he said he would have to start listening to the new wailers cds not jusj the ones with bob marley people enjoyed the concert as well as an ice cream taste test contest that was also at sayre loved most people were sitting on the grass until junior marvin the lead singer told everybody that they only live once and they should get up in the front and dance people played hacky-sack and frisbee in back of the dancing crowd several popular wailers songs such as i shot the sheriff and no woman no cry were played as well as some less known material such as positive vibration and jah live at one point in the show marvin sang buffalo soldier to a young woman from the audience who joined him on-stage brian elias,'9s concert chairman of the student activity council said sac had also considered black uhuru and yellowman as options for the concert sac finally decided on the wailers because they are a better reggae band according to elias famous 70s reggae band plays sayre field the waiters played to a receptive sayie held crowd on saturday for about two hours as part of the greek week festivities the wailers consisted of two keyboard players a bass player two drummers two guitar sigma phi fraternity won the over all greek week fraternity competition when it finished second in theta xis air band competition friday night delta zeta soror ity captured the greek week sorority title scott debell 96 a brother of delta sig said the victory is great for the house debell one of the participants in the air band said he was proud because bis house worked together it's a real accomplish ment he said the competition actually began around 8 p.m although it was scheduled to begin at 7 p.m dancing and lip synching to popular mu sic seven sororities participated in the first half of the event won by alpha chi omega sorority the sisters of alpha phi sorority did a dance routine to a few songs including the hitman alpha chi omega performed baby got back and rumpshaker beth destaffaney 96 said i thought the air band was great alpha chi omega had one of the best skits delta zeta captured first place overall for greek week while alpha chi omega fin ished second see bazaar
