frequency of parties declines in fraternities leadership is stressed by keith rapaport news writer lehigh fraternities may be shift ing their focus away from parties toward building leadership devel oping character and caring about gul el's according to bob robeson as sistant dean for greek affairs robeson said the total number of parties is goingdown particularly in the last three years this year this time there is a pretty unusual situa tion too a lot of groups have had their social privileges suspended robeson said that three years ago there were 138 registered parties by the fifth week of the spring semester last year there were 78 registered this year only 59 parties have been registered so far 13 fraternities are on so cial probation 10 violated lehigh alcohol policy some violations were for under age drinking and unregistered par ties see parties page 18 where they don't enforce alcohol policies robeson said they have to expect the coasequences two houses were disciplined as a result of violating interfratemity coun cil policies phi kappa theta and delta tau delta fraternities had their social privi leges suspended due to rush violatioas and psi upsilon fraternity after two straight semesters on fraternity aca demic probation was stripped of its social privileges most of the suspensions fell be tween lehigh-lafayette weekend and the end of 1992 i don't know why there were so many during that period ... it kind of goes in cycles robeson said maybe it's the officer transition period the ifc sponsors a training pro gram for social chairmen and presi dents of fraternities at the beginning of the spring shakespeare at lehigh arthur bermudez 94 left and joe williams 93 perform irt shakespeare's u as you like it at wilbur drama workshop tonight and tomorrow at 8 p.m dimeola energizes broughal crowd see dimeola page 5 six and eight hours to set up and do a sound check we did in two hours what usually takes all afternoon she said dimeola first came to the public eye in the early 1 970s when he played guitar with famed fusion keyboardist chick corea on the al bum return to forever from there dimeola became one of the driving forces in he jazz/latin/fusion realm of music hismusic is characterized by heavy latin textures swirling keyboard rifts dy sic swirling around in their heads long after the last strains of the songs had died deborah sacarakis cultural affairs coor dinator said i just wish that more of the lehigh community would come out and support these concerts the concert was presented by the lehigh university jazz coalition and was sponsored by a grant from the commonwealth of penn sylvania council on the arts the start of the concert was delayed be cause the band's equipment arrived late sacarakis said that the band wanted between by alan verostick lifestyle writer the brown and white vol 100 no 34 tuesday march 9 1993 senate offers club donations to spur voting lehigh university see senate page 13 any club that the senate has the ability to fund which does not include religious or alumni groups will be on the list by letting people direct funds to the clubs we are expanding student voice hoexter said this also marks the first year that the elections will be held for two days and in peoples the voters hands it will go to the funding of student organizations which the senate does people will say it's wrong to do people are always looking for the negative instead of the positive which this is ," hoexter said to support this policy the senate will reallocate senate funds to the desired clubs no club is losing any money from this their budgets have already been constructed by david mederrick assistant news editor this year's student senate elections are taking on a new policy involving a 1 senate contribution to the student organization of the voter's choice in hopes of increasing low voter turnouts there will be a list of clubs that we fund the voter will be able to earmark a dollar to any one of the listed student organizations said ken hoexter 93 senate president the policy will be incorporated this year and will go under senate evaluation next year in order to decide whether or not to continue the policy this plan is an example of the senate's recent efforts to make a change and to expand the student voice however some might question the morality of combining money and voting into the same procedure no cash is ever going to go to these photo courtesy of the office of media relations al dlmeola guitar legend al dimeola dazzled a packed house at broughal middle school with a two-hour jazz concert friday the auditorium was filled almost to ca pacity people came from as far away as pittsburgh and reading to sec the show dimeola gave the crowd its money's worth in a two-hour concert that was filled with energy heavy beats and lightning fast guitar playing that left the majority of the crowd gasping for breath and leaving with the mu jason project explores life in the seas off baja page 7
