              by karen schacter news writer b^;f : jkes!tt©e>tfefti escape from reality virtual reality a computer-enhanced simulation of one's environment was demonstrated in the grace lounge of the university center this weekend former basketball coach dies service held saturday see packer page 7 lehigh community he stayed close to the programs sterrett said sterrett said that one of his sons dick packer played basketball in the mid 70s his oldest son billy is a basketball analyst for cbs sports he also is survived by a daughter the rev carol dague he was succeeded as basketball coach by pete carril who now coaches at princeton univer sity carril said he was sorry to hear about packer's death carril a bethlehem native said packer was a wonderful guy who was very pleasant packer coached lehigh during a very difficult period since according to carril wrestling was by kevin kniffin assistant news editor funeral services were held on saturday in packer chapel for anthony packer 77 former lehigh men's basketball and baseball coach who died thursday in st luke's hospital joseph sterrett director of athletics said he was a quality person who cared a lot about kids and lehigh university sterrett knew packer for over 20 years since sterrett arrived at lehigh in 1972 packer came to lehigh in 1946 as coach for the freshman basketball baseball and football teams he served as the head basketball coach from 1950 to 1965 when packer left coaching he became supervi sor of athletic fields and grounds packer retired in 1981 but sterrett said he remained a part of the photo courtesy of the epitome coach tony packer right and the 1965-66 basketball squad tuesday march 2 1993 the brown white lehigh university vol 100 no 32 group alerts students to homelessness see homeless page 7 our purpose is to let lehigh know that we are isolated and that a block away is a shelter said peggy mckenna 93 coordinator of the talent show and former director of home less awareness week mckenna said she felt the lehigh community was not aware that the homeless problem is close to home the week is designed to raise awareness of the plight of the homeless while simultaneously raising money for the cause benefit for the homeless a student group will sponsor events which will include a talent show a penny drive and the give up a meal day the proceeds from all of the events will go to bethlehem ' s center city ministries hospitality house and emergency center since the shelter opened five years ago benefit for the homeless has sponsored activities to support them throughout the year the talent show will be on thursday from 7 to 9 p.m at broughal middle school on packer avenue acts will include an a cappella group triple duo the lehigh dance club and a jazz band called a lot of little nods last year the talent show was held in packer laboratory auditorium the organization chose to move the site be cause it's bigger and has better lighting and sound system according to mckenna she also anticipates the bigger space will lead to more ticket sales the proceeds of the event will be split between the st luke's aids memorial fund and center city ministries tickets will be on sale at the information booth which will be on the second floor in the university center this week the booth will be open from 10 a.m to 3 p.m tickets for the talent show will be 4 for students and 5 for the public toys cross fun with technology page 9
