easier to deliver wayne hoffman director of mailing services said visitors to the campus were having difficulty finding their destinations , as well the street signs were part of making this a user-friendly campus he said we had been notified by the post of fice that they were having difficulty sending mail on campus hoffman said work ing with physical planning and the post office we were able to assign street num bers to all the buildings on campus lehigh is one of only a few universities that still uses the u.s postal service to deliver the mail the new addresses will enable lehigh to retain this service faster mail delivery should result from the changes mail with unrecognizable addresses is labeled nixie mail nixie mail is our lowest priority and may be delayed by several days hoffman said hoffman emphasized the importance of proper addressing of mail to assure the most expedient delivery the sororities m the upper centennials and all residence signs addresses speed mail system brown and white lehigh university friday september 18 1992 suspensions illustrate changing social scene vol 100 no 4 some of the charges of alcohol violations have re sulted from students admitting to police or the university administration where they were drinking according to lehigh police chief eugene dax it is the responsibility of an officer to try to ascertain where underage consumption has occurred the number of houses on probation for alleged alcohol violations may be due to the change m the rush schedule for fraternities open rush begins nov 1 and for the first time freshmen males are allowed on the hill before open in the last few weeks they keep finding out a lot of houses are m trouble and they realize that there can be potentially really negative consequences as a result of serving people who are underage bob robeson assistant dean for greek affairs rush robeson said that attempting to keep freshmen off the hill was an unenforceable and unreasonable expec tation it is not a problem of being on the hill but a problem of underage people being served robeson said i think that houses are beginning to enforce the policies more seriously robeson said in the last few weeks they keep finding out a lot of houses are m trouble and they realize that there can be poten tially really negative consequences as a result of serving people who are underage the large number of suspensions prompts the question of how effective this weekend's test of byob is going to be twenty-one-year-old stu dents wishing to drink at byob parties may bring up to a 12-pack of beer before the party begins or up to a 6-pack during the party the interfraternity council is using four weekends during the year to test its byob system that will be permanently imple mented next semester ifc plans to evaluate these four weekends and make changes m policy one concern with the move to byob is that underage students will drink before going on the hill possibly m residence halls or at off-campus parties according to geoffrey haskell coordinator of resi dence life programs this possibility will place an addi tional responsibility on gryphons m terms of both pro gramming and enforcement of university regulations by marc j goldstein managing editor in perhaps the most dramatic evidence of the changing social scene on campus only 13 fraternities registered parties for last weekend m part because of the high number of fraternities who have had their party privileges suspended m the past two weeks an ordinary weekend would have between 18 and 20 registered parties according bob robeson assistant dean for greek affairs with nearly half the hill either on suspension |||| or awaiting hearings it is not a surprise to many robeson that the hill was fairly quiet this week end ill seven fraternities beta theta pi delta chi delta phi delta tau delta pi lambda phi sigma 111 phi theta xi have had their party privileges suspended pending a hearing for alleged alcohol violations or party violations chi phi kappa sigma phi delta theta fraternities are on suspension following a hearing two other fraternities have not been disciplined but are awaiting hearings on party violations robeson said the lower number of houses partying may actually be a good sign that's an indication that some houses are taking their responsibility more seri ously and that they don't want to have a function unless they know they can do so within the parameters of the social policy he said the lower number of fraternities partying may be indicative of a fundamental change spurred
