tuesday april 28 1992 lehigh university the brown and white confidential police reports found in uc vol 99 no 45 see reports page 5 b&w photo by chris ware the missing file was found in a filing cabinet outside the girdler gallery on the first floor of the university center missing police report file contains names incidents from 1984 through 1989 by marc j goldstein news editor confidential police reports were left in an unlocked filing cabinet in a hallway on the first floor of the university center since at least february the reports detail a wide range of incidents includ ing alleged sexual assaults thefts and underage drink ing and include the names of victims and alleged assailants the reports also contained personal data about students including information about abortions and attempted suicides the file found in the cabinets outside the girdler gallery contains lehigh police reports from as early as 1984 and as late as spring 1989 students who were freshman in the 1988-89 school year are seniors now meaning that information contained in the files could pertain to currently enrolled lehigh students also included in the files are hand-written notes between various administrators including communi cations between members of the dean of students office and the provost's office lehigh graduate killed during baseball practice b4w photo courtesy of sports information albert snyder albert snyder 23 a former lehigh student and backup quarterback for the varsity football team from 1988 to 1990 died sunday in the lehigh valley hospital center of a head injury according to the lehigh county coroner a memorial service will be held friday at 3 p.m in packer chapel father john mraz and chaplain lloyd steffan will perform the service snyder is survived by his parents richard snyder of lawrenceburg in angela vaughan of peoria 111 and his brother chad snyder was warming up during baseball practice at notre dame high school about 2:45 p.m saturday when he was hit behind his right ear by a line drive knocking him unconscious snyder was pitching during a junior division recreational baseball league for 23 to 29 year olds in allen town he was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation by a team mate and airlifted by medevac to lehigh valley hospital center snyder was pronounced dead at 9:15 a.m sunday snyder a delta upsilon fraternity brother graduated in january 1992 majoring in management he was employed by jc penny in whitehall as a manage ment trainee snyder grew up in peoria 111 and attended peoria lime stone high school where he played football and was named all-mid-dlini conference for his junior and senior years as quarterback in 1987 after graduating high school snyder attended william rainey harper junior college palentine hi as a sophomore he was named national junior college offensive player of the year for 1988 he led his team to a 23 1 record in the fall of 1988 snyder transferred to lehigh as a by lara cohn assistant news editor randy williams 93 offensive tackle who was a friend of snyder's prior to coming to lehigh said snyder was a tremendous football player but as good of a football player he was he was a better friend williams said snyder was also an assistant to football coach hank small everybody loved him small said and it's a very tough loss small said snyder was vitally involved with the football program this fall and worked with the young quarter backs it's not like he had gone away he was right here with us living in the valley small said we'll miss him badly snyder who will be remembered as always wearing his championship ring from junior college was an avid intramu ral player he wasn't one to sit around and do nothing said ken joseph 92 offensive lineman joseph who came to lehigh as a transfer student with snyder said snyder convinced joseph to stay at lehigh i had a lot of respect for him from day one joseph said there was sort of a little mystique about him al was one of the most terrific kids i've ever met joseph said snyder always had a smile on his face and was the only true champion on the team he was a champion in school and on the field he said a memorial fund is being established in his name to help with the medical and funeral expenses in lieu of flowers the family is asking for cash donations which can be sent to the office of the university chaplain johnson hall 36 with checks made payable to lehigh university backup quarterback he started one game during his lehigh career against columbia university in that game he threw for 3 1 3 yards and one touchdown and rushed for a one-yard touchdown as well to lead his team to a 42-9 win the week before he threw a touchdown pass in a losing 33-14 effort to division i-aa nationally-ranked dartmouth magnificent materials page 9
