the departments of biology and geology will reorganize to form two new divisions by next fall in order to gain more recognition lor the program said jeffrey sands chairman of the biology dep irnen course offerings and major programs will not be af fected when the two departments become the department of molecular biology and the department of earth and environmental sciences explained sands no courses win disappear the same professors will be here teaching the courses and the majors will not change there is no negative impact on the biology and geology curriculum * said saw 11111 rather sands said the restructuring is merely a better way to group the courses 1 sands also said this change will bring a higher profile to the departments in the long run the new change has received approval rom most of the faculty members within the departments of biology geology and psychology yet is subject to approval by the university's board 01 trustee most are in favor of the change they recognize a net benefit because we will be organized in a way that wri make it easier to mova ahead in molecular and environmental sciences/sands said a biology committee composed of faculty members from the new department will be set up to initiate new program it will meet regularly to make sure things go smoothly and provide for the undergraduate curriculum we want to make sure it's a change that is permanent and for the betterment of the students said sands tr«jnewdep4trmenfof molecular biology will continue research in the molecular blomedical sciences and genet ics it will offer courses and research in infec ft tt gloria m uotfer university libraries rm 522a fairchilo/martindale libr no.ooba i q 1 o q oo m lifestyle the bacchae page 7
