class distribution system this is the first year the senior class officers will be responsible for ticket distribution the request form will be accompanied by a newsletter explain ing the process and must be returned by feb 23 additional request forms will also be available at the student activities council desk in the university center senior class president rich verma said we'll try to distribute them fairly and equally while seniors requesting 10 tickets will probably be disappointed verma system there were some ugly and offen sive scenes said bell about parents and students who could not get the number of tickets they desired some people literally demanded a dozen tickets and that's unreasona ble bell continued bell noted that many students locate additional tickets by simply asking around for seniors who will not use their four alloted tickets bell said everybody probably gets as many tickets as they really need verma said he does not foresee any problems with the new system i don't think people will complain if it's handled fairly he said there's noth ing you can do about the number of seats estimates that everyone who puts in a request form should be able to get at least one extra ticket like the four tickets each senior automatically receives any extra tick ets are also free of charge the exact number of surplus tickets is not known although verma said approximately 600 to 800 tickets will be available ticket distribution was previously handled by the community relations department until last september when the academic ceremonies com mittee gave were pinned with ribbons of the panhellic council colors green and white lisa hanson assistant dean of greek affairs julie johnson panhel rush chairperson and dianna ben ner panhel president gave short speeches at the ceremony i think it went well said benner we were happy with the number of people who got spots into a sorority i hope in the future the system will expand by obtaining a larger pledge class and eventually adding more sor tem is run mechanically and systemati cally well one student who rushed and with drew from the process said it was fun but tiring for everybody the best part was that you got to become more familiarized with new people on cam pus she added the part that got tiring was the waiting and the redundant questions you're trying to sell your self and once you felt as if you were starting to know someone you were passed on rush counselors called rho chis were assigned to a specific hall in each living group with the purpose of being the liason between the greek system and the rushee hanson said the job of the counselor was to establish a relationship with the fresh men and sophomores and encourage an interest in sorority life counselors see rush page 2 system of everyone working together formal rush registration was held jan 17 each girl who registered was required to attend a party at each of the eight sororities after the second night each sorority began to narrow their list of preferred bids and issued invitations to the next party on saturday the girls were notified by their rush counselors about their bids the rush period was 10 days long due to national counselor's regula tions this year was not different than last year this system is used among most schools across the count ry hanson said hanson said she feels lehigh's sys orities she added alpha gamma delta sorority receiv ed the most pledges at 27 five of whom were sophomores twenty-six bids were accepted respectively from alpha chi omega alpha omicron pi alpha phi gamma phi beta delta gamma and kappa alpha theta sor orities the rush chairwoman of delta zeta sorority could not be reached for information about their pledge class the total number of girls who rush ed this year was not available at presstime according to benner the purpose of the ceremony was to establish unity among the sororities and to give the pledges a feeling of going into a extra
