lori wei nstock 91 her group is already booking acts for next semest er the comedians we see and bands we hear today were chosen and book ed many months ago as twilight plan ned out this semester twilight sac and club 31 rely heavi ly on the conferences of the national association of campus activities naca there are national and vari ous regional conferences each semest er and each group sends representa tives to scope out the latest talent performers such as comedians jugg lers singers and lecturers are booked in colleges all over the country this year naca's regional confer ence was held in lancaster pa from oct 22-25 she said although there are many performers doing different acts the twilight representatives went primarily to the main stage where comedians and bands perform we're there to see acts that are typical of what we usually book wei nstock said new councilman smith elected could benefit lehigh students students since he has to do business with them goldberg explained city council has two republicans now mohr and otto ehrsam goldberg commented i think the city council is going to be more balanced now the influx of the republican party into the city's political system which has been dominated by democrats could show the democrats that they have to be more receptive to new ideas goldberg said the council has to understand that the lehigh vote counts goldberg said smith may be able to work with students more now that the election is over according to goldberg it's difficult for a politician to take major actions on such unpopular issues such as the recent police harassment toward lehigh unvers ity studentsbefore an election goldberg said hopefully winning with such a large margin will give the mayor enough confidence to handle student concerns he added goldberg said that he did not advise students to vote for a particular candidtate he said he told students who asked for his advice to vote for who they thought would do the better job shannon flam 91 on tuesday may prove to be beneficial to lehigh students election results showed that smith the republican incumbant received 11,371 votes opposing democratic candidate and lehigh alumnus paul marcincin reportedly received 6,533 votes marcincin conceded smith's victory around 9 p.m tuesday evening after seeing the poor returns from the democratic party's strongest precincts on the south side of bethlehem smith won despite the fact that the voter registration for democrats in the city is twice that of the republicans scott goldberg 91 president of lehigh's republicans said the results of the election holds promise for lehigh students goldberg said the election of mohr a republi can and south side businessman is important since lehigh students are customers of mohr's business third this year's selfridge lecture lehigh university friday november 10 1989 greeks face internal problems vol 97 no 17 the brown and white bethlehem and a gift certificate for the lehigh bookstore tickets will be sold at both the lehigh-lafayette and muhlenburg moravian football games ifc vice president tom neff 90 discussed the development of the housing incentive program the pro gram will reward the top 10 houses with the best appearance the award will be based on criteria of charges for damages brickman's fees and fire safety violations with cash incentives to put toward house projects the program is still in the process of being developed it needs more financ ing and criteria on which to base see ifc page 4 by kristen kuck brown and white news editor new plans for improving relations among lehigh fraternities and improv ing the appearance of houses on the hill were presented during the inter fraternity council meeting tuesday night all fraternity house presidents will be invited by the ifc to sign a gentleman's pact this month the pact is the idea of ifc president matt deutscher 90 and will be an agree ment between fraternities to maintain a positive atmosphere within the greek system deutscher said there is far too much animosity between the houses specifically noting fighting vandal states and does not receive federal funding its efforts depend solely on donations the red cross's funds have been depleted by the recent earthquake in san francisco and hurricane hugo the raffle is an attempt to replenish red cross funds to further aid these causes and to help cover any costs of future disasters the first prize drawing is a seven day carnival cruise to the bahamas for two including a round trip flight to miami other prizes include a 500 shopping spree at any of the shops in ifc prepares to help valley's red cross raise money to replenish depleted funds ism and other negative competition between fraternities is having a bad impact on the greek system with all the bad publicity that fraternities get it's more important for us to be strong internally to count eract this bad publicity he said the ifc also announced its plans to help sponsor the lehigh valley red cross raffle benefit with the south side and north side merchants and the lehigh valley association of inde pendent colleges the red cross is the official disaster relief organization of the united besides simply observing the acts the students talk to others to get feedback and make connections with the agents of acts they're interested in to discuss dates and bookings after the conference each club decides on the activities it wants to produce and makes follow-up calls to confirm plans with the agents according to geoffrey haskell stu dent activities coordinator club 31 uses other resources in addition to naca when looking for its perform ers he said approximately 75 percent of the live music produced in club 31 this semester will have come from see sac page 12 sac twilight look for comedians by dominick defino brown and white a&l writer ever wonder where sac and twil ight manage to find all those comed ians to fill up the weekend nights how about the live music club 31 is bringing in for its new thursday jams series although each group uses different procedures for seeking out their enter tainment the common denominator is planning ahead according to twilight president
