rotc unit will participate in dedication of new flag athletic awards to be presented tomorrow at 11 o'clock tomorrow morning the annual flag pole day celebra tion will take place a new flag will be dedicated and the awarding of the athletic certificates for basketball and wrestling handed out intramural cups for football basketball and baseball will be pre sented at this time during the time of the ceremonies classes will be dismissed and the rotc unit will march from grace hall to par ticipate in the ceremony the traditional president's cane will be presented by robert moore le 44 after the athletic cups and medals have been awarded a mo ment of silence for those lehigh men who have made the supreme sacrifice for country and univer sity will close the ceremonies the basketball certificates will be awarded to the following sev en men frank majczan robert collins richard horlacher mur ray goodman ted megas san ford wilson william kirkham there will be nine wrestling cer tificates awarded to the following men julien kennedy richard forshay marcy morrison cor nelius lindholm joe donahue ted niewenhaus william bern ard vincent bell john donahue there will be several athletic cups and medals awarded there continued on page 4 new dining hall opens a new dining hall was opened by the university last tuesday for the benefit of students faculty members and army reservists still on the campus the new com mons is located at 103 packer ave nue a site which has variously served as delta sigma phi frater nity university dormitory army barracks and temporary dispen sary at present only noon meals are being served with both full course dinners and a la carte service available however if the demand warrants three-meals-a-day ser vice will be adopted the lunch period extends from 11:30 a m to 1:00 p m during which time waiter service is offered to all pa trons the new dining service will be under the supervision of the for mer lamberton hall staff with mrs bertha bowman serving as head dietician miss mary ellen hunsicker will be her assistant and mrs rosalind strawn will serve in the capacity of book keeper and cashier lafayette officer inspects rotc apparently the idea of the mock war on top of south moun tain to replace a regular drill per iod has been shelved no action has been taken monday and tuesday the col onel from lafayette inspected the military department and rated the cadets according to their abilities the visiting officer inspected the military installations and equip ment for condition and care on monday and the personnel on tuesday classes were visited and a special review on the drill field was conducted guidon bearers were trained especially for the occasion the rifle range in the basement of lamberton hall is open to r o t c men four days a week but the attendance has been rather disappointing the hours are monday 3 to 5 tuesday none wednesday 3 to 5 thursday 3 to 4 friday 3 to 5 sired by the students petitions bearing the candidates name ac tivities and averages as well as the signatures of 15 students must be presented at the arcadia office by monday noon no more than five men from each melo drama it is to be given in the bethlehem civic theater behind the hotel bethlehem starting at 8:30 tickets are selling at 1.00 single or 1.50 a couple with stu dents getting a 25c refund another stirring melodrama of the he ain't done right by nell type and with a heroine who more persecuted than usual the most despicable villain who has ever been hissed off the boards and a manly hero with a waver ing tenor voice this villain archibald quingle by name goes all the rest of his kind one better by hypnotizing his victims into a state where they agree to do his bidding come what may and of course the innocent heroine little daisy the fairest of all woodland flowers is the special target of archibald's machinations when the arch fiend proposes to the proud heroine . . . any men who have any special talent with regards to singing dancing or musical ability of any sort as well as dramatic ability are urged to meet with the cast and professor al rights this af ternoon at 4 or friday at 4 for final casting and arrangements for the evening turn out all ye subdued barrymores and make this a big success an evening that will be long remembered on the campus all-lehigh banquet to be well attended it is only a week until the date set for the all-university banquet on next wednesday may 24 tickets are on sale now and may be obtained from town section heads or living group presidents for commuters or others who do come under either of these classi fications mrs bowker is selling tickets at drown hall the price is 1.50 which is a small sum if the significance and practical knowl edge to be gained is to be consid ered it is expected to approach an all-time high in the history of lehigh scl programs especially it is of extreme importance to all of us because of the present gen eral decrease of campus activity as has been announced the main attraction of the event will be dr alexander magoun asso ciate professor of humanics at the massachusettes institute of tech nology a recognized authority in this field and the author of sev eral books on this subject and other topics dr magoun will ad dress the university audience on the topic titled preparation for marriage he was previously here at lehigh in april of 1942 when he addressed the seniors on a sim ilar topic the last banquet was held last summer and as all present lehigh men will recall it was a tremen dous success the scl sees no reason why this banquet should not turn out to be equally or even more successful since it is to be the first and also the last such event in quite a while the fullest enthusiasm and cooperation on the part of every student is an abso lute necessity to achieve this merit however the best way for the student to support the pro gram and insure himself of a highly semes tr and turn in a list of his activities and scholastic averages to the arcadia office by monday noon all these candidates for the new committee will have their names acted upon monday afternoon and will not be further considered un less they have complied to the above regulations if any other candidates are de flag pole ceremony will be tomorrow don't fail to attend tomorrow at 11 over half of the present student body will have a chance to witness the annual flagpole ceremony for the first time this is one of the few lehigh customs and traditions that is being continued during the war-time it is the duty and priv ilege of every lehigh man to attend this time-honored ceremony all eleven o'clock classes have been calld off so thre is no ex cuse for absence in case of rain the
