of helping black south africans many people including president likins found the idea of scholarships attractive because it offered a positive active alternative to divestment scholarships would touch textbook in addition to her writing mueller teaches playwriting at columbia and new york universities she said she has the best of both worlds writing is a very lonely thing mueller said by dealing with stu dents there is an exchange of thoughts mueller said interaction with stu dents is an important part of her career and she finds it exciting to see what the students are writing and thinking about in this technical cold world writ ing can be used as an outlet mueller said writing is an inexpensive hobby which can be very enriching in life and it is something no one can take away from a person she sahd she referred to writing as daydreaming on paper and said that listening to daydreams is part of the fun of writing mueller said she was inspired to impressed and somewhat surprised with the strength of the lehigh theatre department especially in light of lehigh's heavy engineering and science reputation the drama department here is wonderful mueller said they put on good solid plays and are very professional and very serious her week concluded saturday with a two-hour writing workshop which was open to anyone interested in writing mueller did not originally plan to hold this event but said she organized the workshop due to stu dent interestand curiosity in playwrit ing the workshop was also designed to give any student interested in writing a chance to see how fun it is mueller said she focused on encouraging young writers and giving her insights into the problems and joys of being a professional playwright i hope to get some people who did not even think of themselves as being creative to see that they can write creatively mueller said prior to the workshop everyone can do it the workshop was attended by 24 students faculty and community mem bers and focused on how to get started in playwriling and how to generate ideas many of those attending said the workshop was helpful and found mueller interesting she was inspiring and gave a lot of good advice of how to get ideas said sophomore jennifer neiman a jour nalism major dma wills assistant professor of journalism said she found mueller's advice on how to keep going despite obstacles or rejections important that's the key where i have been persistent i succeeded and when i was not persistent i did not wills said it was nice to be reminded mueller has written many plays six of which were produced in off-broad way theaters in new york city she has also written several books includ playwright and author lavonne mueller visited lehigh wednesday through saturday as a woodrow wil son visiting fellow mueller winner of a 1986 drama league award encouraged and inspired creative writing in english drama and art classes she also met with the mustard and cheese dram atic society touchstone theater in bethlehem sigma tau delta a nation al english honorary society and omicron delta kappa a faculty and student leadership group mueller said lehigh was the only university she has visited during her three years as a woodrow wilson fellow where she has found science students who are so interested in the arts i am very impressed with the talent here and i think that the students
