bethlehem pa wednesday feb 9 194 price 5 cents vol li no 29 cadets to turn out in force for regimental ball saturday romig rader bands to play in grace hall lehigh's 1,200 asters are ex pected to turn out in full force for the first formal regimental ball to be held in grace hall saturday night from 9 to 1 when two 12 piece orchestras those of bud rader and harry romig together with their popular singers will hold full sway the military ball will be climaxed by the announce ment of the winner of the queen of the ball contest which has drawn entries from members of each of the companies here grace hall is being decorated this week with the flags of all of the allied nations — and two dance floors will be put into use — the drill floor which will resound to the lilting music of bud rader and the basketball court where harry romig will reign the queen of the ball and her court of six beauties now being selected from photographs sub mitted by lehigh g i.'s will be crowned formally at 11 in the evening immediately after the in termission and just before the grand march gets under way each of the winners in the con test will be presented with a floral crown and will head up the grand march which is under the direc tion of lt donald e small the lieutenant incidentally is to be continued on page 4 examination schedule changes are announced the tentative examination sched ules which the civilian students received at the registrar's office are valid except for the following changes and additions geol 5 will be held on satur day feb 12 instead of thursday c e 13 hydraulics will vice-president hal seigle secretary ; and bill bloecher treasurer dick shafer was chosen new chairman of the arcadia five man committee in a final report on the campus community chest it was reported that a total of 1622.78 had been contributed by the ast men and officers and civilian students this total has been apportioned among the various relief organizations and will be given to each organization when drives are made checks to the tuberculosis and health so ciety and the march of dimes fund have already been made start drive for books john donahue chairman of the athletic committee reported that president c c williams had ap proved of the committee's reports on the football situation and that in the future any such inquiries will be made in the same general manner the interfraternity council with help from the town council will probably start a drive to aid the world book fund books collected will be sent to prisoners of war the books should be either light fiction today indicated that the quota would just about absorb all students who could pos sibly qualify for the special deferment excluding ic 4f and those too young to be classified there are only about 90 students eligible for the 82 quota according to the dean dean congdon's complete state ment follows initial quota of 82 defer ments in class 2a granted lehigh university by the war manpower commission needs some explanation in the first place students graduating before july 1 1944 are continued in their present deferred status outside the 82 quota 82 ' quota covers all secondly students due to army and lhigh the houses are leased to the army and can be oc cupied by them at any time how ever mr smiley is attempting to modify the agreements and will be glad to confer with any living groups
