a man wearing a ski mask exposed himself to a female muhlcnberg college student early tuesday morning as she was walking down a street adjacent to the campus according to ken lupole director of public safety at muhlcnberg the man was allegedly standing to the side of the path on which the woman was walking at 1:13 a.m he made a sound which caused her to turn and sec he had his pants down around his knees lupole said the woman screamed and ran toward a dormitory nearby the man fled the man was described as between 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall and 160 to 170 pounds he was wearing dark pants a dark blue zippcred jacket and a brown ski mask with yellow markings lupole said dean of students john smeaton said lchigh is responding to the incident by increasing security we arc going to be increasing the number of security people out this week end he said smeaton added lehigh officials do not know whether the incident has any connection to attacks last spring involving lehigh students but we don't want to take any chances police are investigating the incident no suspects have been identified lehigh hired kevin sid dons this july to work in the dean of students office as drug and alcohol counselor for students who have subst ance abuse problems siddons said any person who feels they might have a problem with drugs or alcohol can go to talk with him he has already begun counseling stu dents many of whom have been referred by friends the administration or the peer counselors in their living group others have been required to see siddons by the administration after involvement in an alcohol related incident every aspect of siddons counseling sessions is com pletely confidential informa tion revealed in counseling is not released to anyone including parents without the student's approval he said what happens here is not part of the discipline record or the academic record siddons said siddons will have his first educational program next week for students referred by the dean of students office students involved in alcohol related incidents will be required to attend three two hour group counseling ses sions we hope to find out if there's a problem and the fact that it increases liability to sell rather than to distribute especially since many of the purchasers are minors it's been going on on our campus ad infinitum and this summer i decided that it was not one of the things i was comfortable with as a person who in the end is going to be held responsible duncan said the second change in the social policy states that in freshman residence halls or predomi nantly freshman residence halls no party may occur at which alcohol is served according to duncan the aim of the changes is to bring the social policy and the state law closer together in a way that is rational for this campus it is dumb and wrong for this university to tacitly allow parties to occur in freshman see social page 5 by rich rosier brown and white news writer vice president for student affairs marsha duncan and president peter likins discussed the recent social policy changes concerning alcohol at a special meeting of the forum tuesday at issue was not only the changes them selves but also the methods by which the administration made those changes according to duncan pubnites have been a major concern of the faculty who have compla ined of decreased attendance at friday clas ses why should the university support an event that interferes with academics i would like to see pubnites go away duncan said she mentioned the possibility of pushing for a dry fraternity rush duncan began the meeting by outlining the two changes which she made late this summer the first mandates that students will not sell alcohol to other students duncan said this : fulfill their legal requirements much of siddons work so far has dealt strictly with alcohol problems although he said he recognizes drug problems at lehigh alcohol use and misuse is so blatant and so big that everything else pales in comparison he said in what town or city can see siddons page 9 cy however siddons said there is a learning process involved in misuse after a person misuses the drug or alcohol he may have to put up with a bad hangover or hear his friends tell him how obnox ious he was the night before misuse is like touching a hot stove we make mistakes and we learn from that he said a percentage of students never learn from their misuse of drugs and alcohol and con tinual misuse becomes depen you find so many people walk ing around with open contain ers in what bar have you ever seen a funnel ? part of our goal is to take steps to bring lch igh's norms in line with the norms of the real world sid dons said siddons a graduate of moravian college and temple university has been working in the drug and alcohol field since 1978 prior to being hired by lehigh he worked in an allentown out patient clinic and a halfway home for patients with drug and alcohol problems siddons said drug and alcohol dependancy can be traced through several stages in a student's life experimen tation which began for most lchigh students in high school is now starting in the third or fourth grade accord ing to siddons this is usually followed by appropriate uneventful regular use siddons said when repeat ed harmful consequences result from use the person is misusing misuse does not
