seriously in jured in the melee that ensued the goalposts suffered the same fate as the l>eopards at satur day's 1 14th lehigh-lafayette contest rowdy students waited until there were eight minutes lafayette game security criticized by jerry miller security around the goalposts will be tightened up at next year's lehigh lafayette game according to william quay dean of students quay said tighter security is necessary to prevent the posts from coming down before the end of the name as they did on saturday in easton the goal posts at both ends of fisher field were destroyed with eight minutes remaining in the game if it means using mace we will use mace quay said yesterday fan behavior at saturday's game he added was not as good as last year we could have lost the game . . the goal posts came down too early quay said the security at the game was too weak he said noting that sideline passes weren't checked allowing unauthorized students and fans to roam the sidelines the perimeter of one student sprayed saturday off-campus lots with 22 spaces almost completed by vicki murk two university funded parking lots on montclair avenue will be completed within two weeks tony corallo director of physical planning said the two lots will ptuvidtr 22 parking apace ami a lighting system completion was delayed because the contractor failed to meet the time schedule but construction is now progressing rapidly he added the parking lots were originally designed to comply with a zoning or dinance the ordinance requires that a parking space be provided for every four beds m warren square however at a zoining meeting on aug 23 residents in the area complained that student cars occupy their street parking spaces therefore eight to 12 of the spaces will be allocated to the residents corallo said in august the university offered to provide 18 spaces in the lots for residents it was one of the concessions granted by vigilant b&w photo by strauss eastoti police sported billy clubs and stem demeanors at the lafayette game saturday faas are ready to begin their onslaught on the goalposts in the background while these officers take a dim view of being photographed at least one policeman found mace a necessary instrument far crowd control group to begin early planning of new library by peg pfenninger a seven-member committee was recently appointed to compile a detailed program for a 7.5 million library slated to be constructed by 1963 the committee chaired by library director berry richards was selected after the university board of trustees last month voted to set aside money from phase ii of the new century fund for the construction in a letter from eric ottervick vice president for planning and provost albert zettlemoyer committee members were instructed to have the program for the 85,000 square foot facility completed b september 1979 members of the committee include roy herrenkohl director of the center for social resources fred fowkes chemistry department chairman donald barry government department chairman assistant professor of economics bruce dalgaard emory zimmers assistant professor of industrial engineering david cundall assistant professor of biology and faculty representative to the forum and richard pulling 79 anthony corallo director of planning is an ex-officio member of the committee consultants to the group are david kaser who compiled a report on the university's library needs last year and library technology expert w kenneth lowry of bell laboratories most of the members of the pannel are from the science-oriented departments because the library will primarily be a science-social science facility according to nan van gieson assistant provost the group won't be designing a building van gieson
