nine lehigh men have been named on this year's collegiate who's who it has been announced all but two of those named are still on campus five of them lou domeratzky hugh boyd hal seigle dick shafer and glenn murray returned with the rotc contingent two phil berg and chuck hilton were graduated in october and the remaining two jack doxsey and bob smith will be graduated in february all five of the army men are in the ordnance division and all but murray are quartered in the cos mopolitan club murray is sta tioned in drinker house the men and their activities are as follows philip j berg president of cyanide junior hon orary society stated that the so ciety is investigating the func tions of various student-faculty committees some of these outstanding com mittees which cyanide hopes to study are the discipline commit tee board of publications stu dent activities committee and drown hall house committees all these committees are promi nent in determining student af fairs and cyanide is directly aid ing the university by looking into them there are at present eight mem bers in cyanide which meets on the second wednesday of every month to discuss lehigh problems these members are either first semester juniors or second-sem ester sophomores by john gebhard again we heave a sigh for the lusty old days when 3000 lehigh alumni not in uniform attended lafayette games and a good part of both student bodies waited in the easton and bethlehem jails for bail ironically enough the first peace treaty between the schools was fol lowed immediately by a liberal splashing of paint at both campuses since then every game has been preceeded by a peace treaty and usually by a riot true — the years from 1926 until 1933 were relatively peaceful with only minor breaks of egg-throw ing painting and the traditional scramble for goal posts but in 1933 the cork was pulled when a mysterious phone call challenged the maroon to tear down the beat lafayette banner strung across the front of taylor hall lehigh stu dents waited anxiously for the ex pected attack but finally the up perclassmen tired of the freshmen guards calling wolf tied them down and went to bed invaders strike at dawn at 3 o'clock when all was quiet the crafty maroon invaders sneak ed onto the campus and battled off with banner in righteous wrath the thoroughly awakened engi neers piled after the abductors with a fleet of cars how times have changed and were driven off the lafayette campus only by the combined efforts of the easton police and fire departments some sixty dozen eggs plus a few potent grapefruit were show vol li no 20 bethlehem pa wednesday nov 24 1943 price — 5 cent ast dance will be held saturday nite bud rader is featured civilian students invited bud rader featured local or orchestra will supply the music for the affair admission for civilian students will be 1.10 a couple and tickets are for sale at the ar cadia office in drown hall and they will also be for sale at the door next saturday night following the second meeting of lehigh and lafayette on the gridiron for this year the ast unit stationed here will present the ast dance a military ball to which all civilian students are invited this weekend friday 6:30 p m grace hall pre football lehigh vs lafayette saturday 10 p m to 2 a m grace hall ast dance with bud rad er's orchestra game rally saturday 2 p m taylor stadium second ast battalion sponsors rally donahue star center is rally chairman 1944 epitome sales to begin sales-campaign for the 1944 epitome with june 1944 delivery guaranteed will begin next week according to co-business man agers robert l smith and tom skilling feature oi the 1944 yearbook will be that it will include an in dividual picture and writeup of every civilian and rotc student now in the university including a:l members of the 1944 1945 and 1946 classes returning rotc men will ap pear in the class that they would normally have graduated with their pictures will be taken in uniform to be placed among the civilian students seniors will be asked to begin scheduling pictures for the 1944 yearbook at mccaa's studio this week notices will be sent to all students within the next month to make telephone arrangements for pictures since this year's epi tome is getting a late start editor continued on page 6 movies of one of last year's lehigh football games will be shown at the final pep rally cf the season on friday night the rally open to all students both civilian and ast will follow the plan of previous rallies with free smokes music cheers and short talks the rally is being sponsored by the second battalion of the ast regiment stationed here the rally to be held in grace hall will begin at 7 o'clock john donahue met e f'44 chairman of the rally committee has been assisted by the ast members of arcadia from the second battalion and bill hursh met e f'44 at the time of publication the identity of the main speaker was unknown but the coaches will speak in addition to the entertain ment provided by the movies and the songs and cheers at the suggestion of col james n caperton ast commanding of ficer the first battalion handled the rutgers rally and the second battalion will sponsor the coming rally these rallies are under the control of arcadia but the bat talions have been responsible for the expense of the rallies in past years the various classes were in charge of the football rallies but the shortage of civilian students has caused other groups to sponsor the rallies in contrast to past lafayette rallies this meeting will be rather short and tame previously each living group presented a skit and after the rally the huge bonfire gathered by the freshmen was lit the climax of the evening was the pa jama parade across the penny bridge and the songs and cheers in front of fem-sem last football rally set for friday kite civilians will not be permitted to have hcusj guests saturday night although ast trainees will be allowed to house their dates in delta tau delta if they are un able to secure other housing for them army dates will also ba able to eat g i chow with their hosts in lamberton hall after the regular contingent has eaten at the last military ball held in december 1942 many of the men now in the ast-rotc unit sta tioned here were pledged to the scabbard and blade military so lehem is so devoid of signs go back to 1935 when the school ask ed students to get fuel for the an nual bonfire in fine spirit every one complied . . . 1937 witnessed the arrival of two mascots generously donated by lafayette — a pair of tame skunks gorgeously bedecked in brown and white ribbons goofy the dog with the slide-rule body was proposed as a mascot by a lehigh man this time trying
