beardslee reelected issues new blood call plans for the coming semester were discussed at an i f council meeting held monday evening in drown hall at 7:30 an election was held for the faculty advisor for the coming year and dr c g beardslee was unanimously re elected the problem of housing the in coming freshmen was brought up it appears that the new men are uninformed as to just where they will be able to stay since the army has taken over campus lodg ings in view of this situation the council has set up a housing bureau under the direction of w robert moore oct 44 president of the i f council this bureau will be open on monday tuesday and wednesday oct 18 19 and 20 for the various groups to sub mit their list of vacancies and other information at the present time it appears that there are about 50 incoming freshmen that will have to be taken care of and there are approximately 40 avail able rooms in the various frater nities off campus the red cross blood drive is still going on and it is not too late to contribute registration for donors will take place at the bush & bull department store tomorrow from 9 in the morning until 6 in the evening this will be the last day of registration about 56 le high men donated for the drive held last semester the council voted to give 50 to the commun ity chest fund this term it also voted to purchase a 500 war bond graduation set for october 17 and 18 although plans for the univer sity dance to be held on novem ber 6 are still indefinite prelim inary contacts have been made with several band contractors and by the end of the week the or chestra should be decided upon and final plans laid for the first social function of the coming semester among the possibilities of or chestras suggested is johnny mc gee and his all-star aggregation this orchestra which includes many old-time jazz stars such as bobby hackett trumpeter and bob haggert bass player in the old bob crosby combine has reg ular radio engagements through out the week but is free on satur days the committee for the dance will consist of three civilians a rotc man and two astp men civilians on the committee are john e doxsey m.e f'44 john h moore m.e 044 and warren r dix met.e f'44 service men on the committee have not been appointed as yet the dance will follow the first home football game of the season with west virginia a new contingent of 29 activat ed rotc men have returned to lehigh these men were in the advanced rotc and were taken into the army in may those men to return include the following charles b austin met e.'45x hugh boyd m.e.'44 wil liam r bechdolt met.e.'44 rich ard w buck 1.e.'45x charles e bosserman 1.e.'44 warren h bradford ch.e.'44 william a clark m.e.'4sx john r dove ch.e.'45x jack a davis met.e 45x louis domeratzky m.e 45x ray a forner ch.e.'44 oscar e fox 1.e.'44 clair a hoffman ch.e.'4s john a henry 1.e.'44 william b hursh met.e.'44 ed win f hussa m.e.'4sx carl r ingemanson e.e.'44 jack h keenan their respective schools when they were interviewed they all expressed the feeling of being very very happy to be back at lehigh they all agree that the food is some of the best that they have ever eaten since their induc tion they have just arrived from aberdeen training camp and they consider their present quarters much better than those they for merly occupied at camp at present they have no luggage except the clothes that they are wearing they have no idea of what they will do here at school but they say that they do not es pecially care as long as they re main at lehigh there were other advanced rotc men from other colleges at their camp and it is thought that these men were also returned to their colleges rodolfo michels to give commencement address plaque to be unveiled for hydraulics pioneer lamberton dining director resigns mrs e r sloane former di rector of lamberton hall dining service resigned her post septem ber 30 she had been employed in the management of lamberton hall since she came here as as sistant to miss troeger in 1941 mrs sloane has gone to new york to be with her husband a lieutenant jg of the coast guard mrs b b bowman of bethlehem has been appointed manager of the lehigh dining services miss m l jenkins and miss m e hunsicker both graduates of penn state 40 have been em ployed as assistants to take over some of the increased duties of the management staff caused by the opening of the drown hall graduation exercises begin sunday october 17 for approximately » hundred lehigh graduates the baccalaureate service will be held on that day with graduation proper on monday october 18 founder day with the academic procession forming at 10:30 sunday morning nd the baccalaureate sermon starting half an hour later the service will include a quartet of glee club members furnishing music for th affair the university faculty will attend in full academic regalia on founder's day monday graduation exercises will be held in the morning and a plaque un veiled in the afternoon approxi mately 100 undergraduate and 15 graduate degrees will be given the academic procession will form at the alumni memorial building at 10:15 in the morning and will proceed to packer mem orial chapel where at 10:30 th commencement exercises will be gin the commencement address will be given by rodolfo michel washington d c chilean am bassador to the united states who was the recipient of an honorary degree from lehigh university during last may's graduation ex ercises next on the program will be the conferring of degrees follow ed by the announcement of prizes and honors won by undergradu ates during the scholastic year williams and wilbur prize win ners will be notified of their awards and the names of fresh man and sophomore honor stu dents will be announced following the benediction dr shields will play the organ post lude as the chapel is cleared the final event will be the playing of the alma mater by the university band at 2:30 on founders day after noon a plaque will be unveiled in honor of prof mansfield merri man former professor of civil en gineering who established the first college hydraulics laboratory in the united states in 1887 mer riman served at lehigh from 1878 to 1904 acting as faculty secretary for a number of years schedule for the graduation week for sunday and monday oct 17 and 18 the two big j'4s the group has also communi cated with station wcba in al lentown in connection with the radio program which it is propos ing to stage among the feature attractions at the all-university banquet last wednesday evening were the tapping of five men to cyanide and the spectacular tricks of john mulholland world-famous magician and lecturer reading from left to right in the cyanide picture leslie
