lehigh's fall scenery the duller behind win dow adds character wlvr receives 13,200 for move by maryellen connor wlvh ihe campus radio station recently received 13,200 of its requested binding which will be used to finance the station's move to 104.9 fm on the radio dial according to walter trimble pro lessor of journalism and wlvr faculty adviser the move to 104.9 is a must according to trimble it is the only place wlvr can move and still be heard at 10 watts he said according to our engineering studies 104.9 is the only spot where the university's station will not interfere with existing stations trimble continued last year the federal communica tions commission fcc asked all non commercial educational stations to increase their power to 100 watts by lan 1 1980 wlvr remained at 10 watts pro hibiting it from being an educational sta tion in order to keep its fcc license and to continue operating at all wlvr must apply to the fcc by april 1 liigrl appro val for their proposed move to 104.9 the move to 104.9 is just a method to keep our license trimblesaid we art hoping to stay at 104.9 until we can find a spot m the educational band if a spot opens up we must apply to the fcc again this time to raise our power to 100 watts m order to move to the educational band and be a full-fledged educational station he continued the board of publications originally requested 32,000 from the dean of stu dents office this amount included the cost of a new transmitter and major stu dio renovations wlvr will receive the rest of the requested funding if it becomes an educational station again in effect the administration is telling us to get by on essentials until we are guaranteed a spot on the educational dial and this attitude is smart on their part trimble said we have what we need now to cover tile move to 104.9 but we will need the rest to move back to the educational band he continued kven though wlvr has secured its funding it is not guaranteed that its application for the move to 104.9 will be successful we might not be the only station applying for this position trim ble said lafayette's radio station is m the same boat we are and if they get their application m before we do they will get the spot also wlvr must receive the go-ahead to move from the fcc by june 1 . and if there are any mis takes m the university's application we will miss the wooden box covers protecting statues rossington collins concert plagued by many problems by sanford block the approximately 3.340 tickets sold for wednesday's rossington collins con cert showed a 7 30 show time but it was about four hours later at 11:10 when that band finally began playing at the stabler arena according to richard fritz director of events at stabler problems began wed nesday morning when a spokesperson from john scher productions the pro motion firm for rossington collins received a call from the band's road manager who said there was a possibil ity that the band would not be able to appear because of illnesses among other things according to fritz at about 4 30 p.m he called carl ruch medical director of the health center and received ihe names of five general practitioners m the area to the best of fritz's knowl edge the doctor did check out the band members and it appeared that every thing was fine at 7:30 according to richard metz director of auxiliary services the even ing's plumbing problems began appar ently metz said a backup m a main sewer line leading out of the arena caused a stoppage m all of the arena's ground-level floor drains flooding locker-room and concessions areas the mainline pipe-sin the arena were shut off to prevent water buildups and electrical hazards metz said the evening's warm-up band 38 spe cial apeared onstage at 8 30 according to fritz within 15 minutes the showco contractors sound equipment broke down and 38 special left the stage the band returned 10 minutes later but according to fritz the equipment broke down again a technical adviser for both bands appeared onstage and announced something to the effect of this bullshit sucks a comment veri fied by several witnessed including metz fritz later commented that this announcement was unauthorized unprofessional and to be honest vulgar at 9:50 as work proceeded on the pluintolftg ib special returned onstage and with sound problems remedied the band played for about 40 minutes sound equipment was changed and adjusted for rossington collins and at 11 10 they began their performance playing until about 12:30 a.m according linderland i b&w
