lehigh university brown and white 215 861-4184 vol 92 — no 26 bethlehem pa friday january 23 1981 campus police arrest pair suspected in nov burglary campus police have arrested two men m connection with an early morning bur glary nov 16 of last year m which var ious items including jewelry stereo equipment and articlesof clothing were stolen from lambda chi alpha frater nity all items except for the stereo equipment have been recovered accord ing to campus police sgt neil schlot tman who headed the investigation which resulted m the arrests arrested were raymond grimes ik who listed his address as 435 pawnee st bethlehem and harold stoney tho mas also of bethlehem according to campus police grimes had been living at the easton children's home both men have been arraigned before district magistrate john gombosi and will await trial during the next session of northampton county criminal court according to schlottman two frater nity brothers were m pursuit of two men who were observed removing items from the house nov 16 after a description of the two was broadcast to campus police sgt charles fosburg and officer edward shupp stopped two men a short time later m the area of packard lab both fit the description according to schlottman one of the suspects managed to escape at this time schlottman said the second suspect identified as grimes was taken into custody and found to be m possession of certain items reportedly taken from lambda chi alpha as well as items which had been reported stolen m another burglary at mcconn house nov 15 schlottman said released ! ih&w photo by jeff bichenfield the setting sun of jan 20 1981 ended a day of new hopes and new promises as ronald wilson reagan took the office of ihe united stales presidency the uc bell lower chimed 52 times to celebrate the release of the american hostages m iran hourglass campus meeting place opening by mary frances oonlky the hourglass an on campus gathering place will open jan 29 according to jeff aibel 82 chairman of the social alternatives committee of forum xi the meeting place will be located m the university snack bar and will feature live music a six to seven-foot television and projection screen movies and additions to the regular snack h ii menu according to aibel the additions to the menu will include quiches salads and special desserts prices for main courses will range from 1.25 to 2.25 the regular menu will also be available aibel said professional performers and campus talent will be featured john lee a folksinger will be the opening act on jan 29 appearing at 9 p.m the hourglass will be open no more than bi-weekly for the first few weeks of operation aibel said although the snack bar will continue regular business the hourglass will be open jan 29 from 8:30 p.m to midnight aibel said the committee is not trying to detract from social events already offered on cam pus but attempting to fill a need for additional program ming we are not anti anything 1 ' he added funding for the project is being provided by the dean of students office the students activities council residence halls council and the univer sity dining service although several groups have expressed an interest m funding the project aibel said funding at this point is still unsure the committee has enough to finance the opening night but financial committments are not yet settled he added the dining service has pro vided a lot of the funding for this aibel said adding that if it is a success the dining ser vice may invest more other groups not m a position to provide funding have also supported the project such as the gryphon society the inter fraternity council and the black students union the social alternatives com mittee is a non-profit organiza tion which will re-use the money that it takes m for more snack bar activities re-generating and building m that way aibel safd he added that the committee has tried to enlist the support of every major campus group and welcomes any input and ideas from students the snack bar has always been a great place to study but beginning jan 29 it will become a great entertainment center as well campus and local talent of all types will be featured at hour glass the universities newest meeting place zappa promoter charged with passing bad checks by sanfoho block criminal charges have been filed against richard cohen the promoter for last april's frank zappa concert at stabler arena according to mary grei finger of zappa's glotzer management greifinger m a report released to zodiac radio news service said cohen allegedly wrote a bad check for 22,500 to zappa's production company ica limited the filing of the charge was verified by the criminal division of the northampton county court of common pleas greifinger also reported that cohen has been charged m a similar case involving a zappa concert at rutger's university the check m that case was reportedly written m the amount of over 30,000 cohen's appeal for dismissal of the former charge at a preliminary hearing m bethlehem was dismissed by district justice elizabeth romig greifinger said richard fritz director of events at stabler noted that the zappa show m april was the only concert for which the university has dealt with cohen
