inn carroll and his band did just that sunday night in packard lab auditorium approximately 10(1 students attended the concert city of bethlehem to provide ambulance service to campus by michele ierf.ncher the city of bethlehem has agreed to provide emergency ambulance service to the university following suspension of service by the community 9 volunteer corps last saturday according to cam pus police chief kugene dax the community 9 corps which pre viously served the university was forced to halt operation because of a shortage of volunteers a community 9 spokesman said we did have a large number of volunteers from lehigh but when they went home we did not have enough help " she said our city people were not enough to handle everything ." dax explained that the new arrange ment will probably eliminate some phone calls making emergency proce dures easier for campus police if we call the city of bethlehem and they arc busy they have agreements with local corps to fill in the gap he said we must make only one call to the city they are responsible for supplying an ambulance previously community 9 was called first during an emergency if they were on a call campus police had to call the i ity ambulance tor service the city ambulance will handle only emergency cases and will not transport patients according to cass casteuucci bethlehem supervisor of ambulance ser vice if there is an emergency the city will respond if a transport is needed we will refer the call to a private ambu lance casteuucci said bethlehem fire commissioner celestino freitas said back-up and transport service will prob ably be provided by the fountain hill emergency rescue squad stand-by ambulance service for events at stabler arena was also pro vided by community 9 arrangements for another stand-by ambulance service have not been made at this point stabler operations and f.vents coordinator joseph kress said casteuucci said the city's two ambu lances are staffed by seven full-time and four part-time paramedics and two full time and three part-time emergency medical technicians he added that the paramedics are trained to the highest level possible in pennsylvania the city ambulance has served the university in the past on a limited basis casteuucci said we were coining in to the university before with some emer gencies now we will take them all he said our rapport with the university police is very good since we are some what unfamiliar with the campus we meet the campus police and they lead us to where we are going casteuucci explained that the designated meeting place is always enroute to the emer gency therefore no time is lost fire commissioner freitas said the university will be charged the standard fee of 45 per run we are not signing a contract to serve lehigh for a flat rate " he added details on the cost of fountain hill's ambulance service were not available improved relations could offset hourglass loss by imm'g mattfku improved relations between the fond services and the student body could offset the financial loss incurred during the feb 1 hourglass according to mar tin heaps group manager of food services the attendance was very good and the students seemed tci enjoy it heaps said he added however that foodservi ces lost between 400 and 500 on the night it is hoped that the facl that the hour glass loss is being absorbed will indicate the food services desire to establish good relations with the studen body heaps said y heaps cited the labor costs for the waiters employed during the hourglass as the major factor in the loss the snack bar is not built for waiter ser vice heaps explained it's more ul a fast-food type of operation ■the present waiter system will be evaluated heaps said with student input bemg considered before any changes are made a higher customer turnover rate would help but is not likely heaps said because people wouldn't get to see the entertainment heaps said adjustments were made to the original hourglass mepu with unpopular items removed but food ser vices does not want to raise the prices of the items to make up the deficit jefl aibel 82 chairman of the social alternatives committee said the aver age bill of a person who ordered some thing was under 2 the kitchen probably made a net profit aibel added concerning the implementation of a cover charge to recover some of the costs aibel said this is not possible in the snack bar with the improved relations between the food services and the students the extra costs may be worth it heaps said the next hourglass is scheduled for march 4 formation of new forum discussed by faculty by andy lehren the possibility of forming a new university-wide government is being discussed by faculty members of forum xi according to an 11-page report released tuesday by the forum struc ture and purpose drafting committee the committee does not advocate at this point a specific organizational struc ture for such a body but plans to exam ine the current governance system the need for a government at the all university level the functions of such a body and a general proposal for redis tributmg the forum's present powers among faculty student and university level governmental bodies according to the report the re'port cited the recent efforts of the concerned students coalition csc in attempting to form a new student government as a major factor for reviewing all-university government until the recent developments toward a prospective student government it would have been difficult to say what sort of tasks a university-level govern ment ought to attend to the report stated it now seems that the general shape of a student government can be envisioned well enough that the com munity can fruitfully turn its attention to broader matters most of the basic decisions about the university are made by the administra tion the report said it seems reaso nable to suppose that this trend will continue although it need not function as an adversary to the administration an important role is a forum in which the administration can be called upon to jus tify its actions for university-level governance the report said the general atmosphere of the student community ought to properly be a concern of the faculty the kind of conditions that most immediately con cern faculty as teachers are
