chaperones were dr and mrs beardslee and capt and mrs cyanide to elect new members cyanide activities honor society decided to take on new members at a meeting held last friday because of the prevailing un certainty the point system has been given up and membership will be based on activities so far no new members have been elect men in the last half of the soph omore year or first semester of junior year are eligible for mem bership these men should submit a list of their activities to the ar cadia office second floor of drown hall by monday sept 20 at noon b&w photo by herb kynor three lehigh students and their dates sitting one out during the if-gi ball last saturday night the ball which was the biggest social event of the summer semester drew a large crowd of students and astp men as well as a few v-12 men from muhlenberg bud rader and orchestra provided the dancers with their usual brand of smooth music from left to right on the platform bob moore santa maxwell of i f council john mulholland noted magician to entertain arcadia to sponsor affair tickets are 1.50 by bud morrison arcadia will sponsor an all-university banquet on wednesday sep tember 29 at 6 o'clock in the evening at the hotel bethlehem tickets are being distributed to the various living groups this week and will be on sale for 1.50 a person although all-university banquets have been held before this will houses ready for army use andrew j litzenberger super vising architect of the university has announced that all structural changes to be made in the remod eling of the campus fraternity houses for army occupation have been completed some plumbing work still re mains to be completed because of priority difficulties but it will be completed by the week-end and all houses will then be ready for army occupation the drown mess hall will be able to start serving the new army men who arrive on the campus by thursday sept 15 the comple tion of this was delayed by the failure to arrive on schedule of the two new steam bars all other equipment for the mess hall has already arrived the only major job remaining is the removal of the present dish washer from lamberton hall it must be installed in drown hall and a new washer has to be substi tuted in lamberton the major part of this job must be accomplished in the space of a single evening since the lamber ton dishwasher is in constant use be the first one for the majority of students now at lehigh the ban quet is open to all lehigh stu dents including the astp as well as the lehigh faculty alumni and employees the banquet will fur nish an excellent chance to pro mote a bit of real college spirit and produce an evening of fun will feature magician the entertainment for the eve ning will feature john mulholland world renowned magician and lec turer who visited lehigh last sum mer and put on a very entertain ing show mulholland's experience in the field of magic is most inter esting believing that man provides the greatest study of mankind mulholland has lived and talked with coolies kings dictators and paupers in almost every country of the world the public hates to be fooled by dictators but loves to be fooled by a magician this is the phil osophy of john mulholland who is recognized as the king of all prestidigatators and the outstand ing exponent of necromancy in this country no phase of magic has he left uninvestigated and his lectures prove an interesting ac count of his adventures and startl ing disclosures of facts which should be known mulholland is capable of presenting in an easy and companionable degree of en tertainment value through his life time study of the history lore and psychology of magic part of arcadia plan members of the university ban quet committee men from the first two lists and only one man from the october class list the top three men will be elected to the arcadia governing commit tee as these men are graduated or perhaps forced by the e 44 to select their new chairman fraternity leaders are asked to stimulate voting at informal talks to be given wednesday night pre ceding the elections town men will cast their ballots at drown hall in a special ballot box the ballot boxes will be closed at 5 o'clock the second group of 620 astp cadets scheduled to start arriving on the campus this past monday has not arrived as yet these men are scheduled to begin classes on oct 11 they will be coming from many camps and will reside in the recently acquired campus installa tions these men will eat in either lamberton hall or the remodeled drown hall commons it is assumed that all or almost all of this second group will be basic engineers the university has had to inform the third ser vice command headquarters that an increase in the number of cadets cannot be handled with the present facilities palmer to wed sept 20 the marriage of richard brad bury palmer son of dean and mrs philip palmer to miss ruth bar nard will take place monday sept 20 at kennett square friends meeting kennett square pennsylvania kitchen holiday voted for night of banquet w robert moore m e 044 was elected president of the inter fraternity council at f'44 the new administration will soon form plans for the next semester philip berg m e 043 outgo ing president reported a profit on the if-gi ball of approximately 1.25 it was announced at the meet ing that dean congdon would like a list of the men who are staying in each off-campus fraternity to facilitate placing the 50 or more freshmen who will enter school next month the dean would also like to have all men who recently moved from the campus and aren't living in off-campus houses to no tify him this week just where they are living house kitchens close it was decided that those houses which are serving meals at the present time should close their kitchens on the night of the all university banquet in order to in crease the attendance other business of the evening included the voting to donate 50 to the world students service fund an organization which aids the refugee students all over the world charms for membership in in terfraternity council were distrib uted to the members present any one absent from the meeting who should have received a charm may obtain it at the arcadia office campbell's address enjoyed at banquet capt james d campbell ad dressed about 28
