the history of hie university 1 ' professor j . donald ryan said to the first session of that group last thursday and the forum is in danger of coming to an end only two-thirds of the faculty's 6(1 forum seats have been filled the new forum co-chairman continued adding that there lias been a growing lack of faculty support for the forum over the last several years because of the situation ryan urged faculty student and administration representatives to work together their primary goal he said should be to pre serve the idea and concept of a univer sity forum despite claims by some faculty members that the forum does not act as effectively as it could ryan said that particularlj in issues of mutual concern between faculty students and adminis tration the forum becomes a very important mechanism for the airing of university problems me added thai the forum cannot function without strong support from all three groups ryan said we might have been dreaming a bit of what could be when ihe forum was founded 13 years ago but added that he felt the forum lias accomplished a great deal when its suc cess is judged in terms of its influence on the formation of university policy rather than the amount of legislation it has had pushed through ryan said a study of the problems and ' btructure of the forum would be con ducted over the summer and next year we might have to make some inrentive not to end up on the short end sigma chi won the event good attendance reported for spring festival despite some early resentment from fraternity members spring festival h2 went pretty well with good attend ance according to lorraine scheib ener chairman of the event the resentment came in the fi>rn"iof a little hostility towards the spring festi val from some fraternities who made their statement by scratching out the words spring festival on some pos ters mil writing in greek week she added scheibener said that spring festival and greek complemented each other well although they were two separate events occurring in the same week the fraternities incorporated some ol our activities into their publicity such as roller-skating she said noting that the traditional greek week events were organized by the interfraternity council ifc scheibener explained thai when the planning for spring festival began she was under the impression there would not be a greek week this year and that fraternity ind sorority representatives originally worked along with her to make plans for the week we were told by the administration that there was no greek week so we had fraternity and sorority representatives working with us we knew all their plans ahead of time she said scheibener said the timing of events was planned well so that none of the major events coincided she also noted that non-greeks attended the greek week events while many greeks attended the spring festival functions that were publicized by the ifc greek week went just super according to campus police chief eugene dax it was a joint effort by the administration and the dean's office there was total cooperation he said adding that it was one of the best greek woman identifies alleged assailant university man faces 2 charges \ university student was arrested and charged on wednesday for the assault of a sophomore woman in her room in meclintic-marshall house on april 25 a preliminary hearing is scheduled for may 7 errol apostolopoulos h4 was charged with aggravated assault and criminal trespass by district magistrate john gombosi his bail was set at 5,000 and he was released on his own recognizance the incident occurred at 5:55 a.m according to the woman's testimony i old togombosi by campus police patrol man mark dil.uzio she told dil.uziolhat she awoke at that time to observe a man she later identified as apostolopoulos kneeling beside her bed she described the assailant as w r hite 3'10"-s'u 170 ihii pounds with brown curly afro-like hair later that afternoon she identified apostolopoulos from his class's fresh man register she also picked him out of a lineup of six men on wednesday according to the woman's testimony to diluzio the man grabbed her and pushed his fist into her mouth to quiet her during the struggle she said she received injuries from his attack and from being pushed against a desk and a clothing rack broken in the incident the aggravated assault charge was based on her testimony that he did attempt to cause serious bodily injurj to her the criminal trespass charge was made because the defendant allegedly entered her room and remained there without being licensed or privileged todo so hai-karate friday's spring festival activities included this martial arts demonstration on the uc lawn in the early afternoon in addition to the usual board splitting events some man lo man sparring was also exhibited by members ol the university's kar ' ate club sigma chi finishes first in greek week competition the final results for greek week 82 are in and the top four finishers this year are in order sigma hi alpha sigma flu delta phi and phi delta theta according to jim odell 82 interfrater nity council ifc president alpha phi the top sorority finished ninth overall everything went very well the new events that took place in the valley on thursday were especially successful with close to 2.000 people attending he said odell gave a rundown of the winners of the individual events throughout the week phi gamma delta fiji won the first event of the week the ifc softball tour nament which took place on sunday afternoon delta upsilon took the next event wrist wrestling which was held on monday three events took place on tuesday delta phi took honors of the day by win ning two of the contests the toga race and pie eating while sigma chi took the top spot in greeker eating thursday's activities which took place in saucon valley were new addi tions to greek week this year sigma chi won the tug-of-war while zeta psi's pledges built the fastestpledge pyramid the week's events culminated with the bed race and parade on friday kappa alpha turned in the fastest time with their three-wheeled bed while alpha sigma phi's version of pac-man won for the best bed decoration see spring page 8
