certain about the future of the forum is that its future is uncertain according to the people who hold posi tions of power m the organization at the end of last semester a report prepared by the forum structure and purpose committee headed by raymond bell associate professor of education advocated a major revision of the forum according to the report the forum is seen by the faculty and student body as dealing ineffectively with pertinent issues we definitely need a lot of changes agreed caryn gorbunoff 80 vice chairman of the forum but we can definitely survive without implementing those changes she added referring to the report sentiment seems to be that some of the things were off-base " she remarked about the bell report % as it is often called because of its chairman but bell who said he did not like the name bell report — pointed out that the committee agreed to the final report unanimously forum m trouble the changes are warranted and the message is quite clear that the forum is m trouble bell said without the changes the forum will die a very sad death he remarked the major recommendations of the report were that the forum be made a dual structure of students and faculty the change was aimed at making each body student and faculty govern over its own interests when the two combine they can look at a broader issue — university governance rather than individual problems bell said the forum did an excellent job when created but needs to be changed said dean of students william quay m support of the report faculty interests and student interests are clearly identifiable he said and should work separately smaller size needed another aim of the report is to increase student and faculty interest a serious problem right now said howard whit comb a committee member and associate professor of government the report suggests a smaller-sized body fbr the forum which should increase the interest of the students involved he said many forum members agree about the reduction m the size of the forum but are opposed to the major recommendation — the division of the forum the major recommendation is not very useful said chaplain hugh flesher forum member and chairman of forum iv changes are needed he said but the report is not a solution i have a distinct feeling that we're about to turn a corner bicameral body inefficient the dual government will not be pleas dec 17 according to carter the issue m question m this particular suit is whether the university must fulfill its contractual obligations to its employees the university should not be above the law he added dean of students william quay speaking for the university wednesday night said he could not comment on the suit because it has been turned over to the courts and is m litigation the suit claims carter has been har med by the university's failure to fulfill three contractual obligations to him as a gryphon according to the suit the university's obligations were the provision of a single occupancy room through the end of the current semester the payment of 200 guaranteed to a gryphon m his third year of service and the skills he would have acquired as a gryphon this year carter explained that claiming damages m excess of 10,000 gives him the option of taking the case to federal courts should it continue past his june graduation a suit seeking 10,000 or less m damages is under the jurisdiction of county and state courts he pointed out carter was removed as a gryphon m stoughton house on sept 12 by then assistant dean of students hershel dorney two weeks later he was fired as an active gryphon but was permitted to remain a member of the gryphon society he had begun his duties as a gryphon m august 1977 as a gryphon m stoughton last fall along four fraternities with low gpas put on probation four fraternities have been placed on inter-fraternity council probation for the spring semester according to dean of students william quay because of tiieir low grade point averages gpas for lhe fall semester theta delta chi 2.239 phi gamma delta 2.229 delta tau delta 2.227 and sigma phi 2.061 have been placed on probation and must meet with the ifc scholarship committee to review thdr standings if a fraternity is on ifc probation for two semesters m a row it automatically goes on university probation and may sponsor no regular social activities quay said dravo c-4 had the overall highest gpa for the fall semester with 3.148 alpha phi was first m the sororities with a gpa of 2.771 while alpha sigma phi had the highest fraternity average for the second consecutive semester with a 2.782 the gpa for all undergraduate students was 2.662 this was the median average of the 100 living groups the gpa for all women was 2.825 and ranked 25th overall while the gpa for all men was 2.610 and ranked 56th the class of 80 ranked the highest of the four classes with an average of 2.856 followed by the class of 83 with a 2.655 the class of 81 with a 2.649 and finally the class of 82 with a 2.502 the residence hall gpa was 2.751 higher than the fraternity and off-campus residence average for at least the fourth semester m a row the off-campus gpa was 2.571 and the fraternity gpa was 2.481 the german house gpa did not appear on the list due to a mix-up according to edwin eigenbrot assistant registrar it had ranked first for at least the three semesters
